Where should the upgrade using avios link be on a BA booking? 🙂 I have a WTP booking, but there doesnt seem to be an option tot try to upgrade with avios anywhere on mmb. Its an open jaw on the same PNR incase that matters.
I think you have to call for anything like this, and there has to be avios availability in the class you’re upgrading to.
If what you mean is that you wanted to use the facility to book with cash and upgrade with avios, you have to do that all in one go when you make the original booking, but IME you get charged a lot more for the cash flights!
Last year it was possible to do it via MMB, I did a WTP>CW upgrade with avios where for months it said there was no availability then when they added more CW seats, it was upgradeable online, but for this booking I just cant find the link to check it at all. The only diff was the flight I upgraded previously wasnt an open jaw.
And yeah, I had looked at a cash+avios booking as there was CW availability for the outbound a day later (return flt was still WTP) and the cost was 500 more lol. So I kept the WTP booking 🙂
I think they might have been offering targeted upgrades at one point but I don’t know if this is still the case. You may be correct about the open jaw causing issues – I generally have a domestic connection on my bookings and can never make any kind of changes online so it’s possible that BA IT is just incapable of dealing with anything which isn’t completely straight forward!
Have you ever worked it out? I don’t have upgrade link either. I can see award availability on return flight. My reservation is also open jaw, so I wonder if it’s causing the issue.

I was struggling with this the other day and figured it out. Looking at the booking on a computer you need to click on the bit at the very top which goes back to the old layout (I forget the exact wording). Then when you click on upgrade it should give you the option to use cash or points.
One other strange thing I found was that a offer to upgrade was showing in the classic view, but not in the new one. £299 vs over £1k each in the new view, so I snapped it up as it was 30k avios plus fees otherwise.
