Hi
I’m at Dubai Airport and soon on a flight to Edi via LHR. Would I definitely be able to buy alcohol at duty free and transit in LHR without getting my gin confiscated!! I’m assuming the airport could package it in tamper proof bags? The flight is mega busy and not a spare seat in WP plus so not looking forward to it – travelling solo. I’m in the Ahlan Lounge which is not too bad at all. Will get my silver status next month so can’t access BA Lounge.
Most airport duty free shops will put your alcohol purchases in tamper evident packaging for connecting flights. I assume you’re flying with BA – their website specifically says that this is acceptable if you search the FAQs. The security staff at LHR know about this and are generally fine about it (except for once some years ago when they made us pack in it one of the hand luggage cases and check that in!)
I’ve had issues a couple of times at GCM when they refused to sell anything over 100ml to anyone with a connecting flight but I think they were being overzealous, tbh, and that was also some years ago. No idea what they’re like at DXB.
Another option would be to pre-order your gin (if available) to be delivered on board through the Hi-Life shop online. I’ve done this and it’s very efficient – waiting for you in your seat when you board! This might only be for UK departures though, so you’d need to check that.
