Forums Other Destination advice November sun, with a 6 month old

  • 5 posts

    Hi there,

I’m looking for a bit of advice on potential destinations for some November sun for a week long holiday.

Usually we would go to Asia but now we have a baby (who will be around 6 months old then) we ideally would like somewhere closer.

So far the only place we found that might be suitable is Tenerife. Does anyone have any other ideas? We’re happy to fly for up to around 6 hours, but don’t want to do Dubai.

We’ve never done an all inclusive but quite like the idea of sitting on a beach for a week and it being fully catered (provided the quality is OK).

Suggestions of destinations and hotels that are baby friendly (but not kids hotels) are really welcome!

Canaries would definitely tick all your boxes. Sunshine, beaches, family-friendly, suits all budgets, only 4 hours away, no time difference.

It depends what you want. For the best beaches, think Lanzarote or Fuerteventura. For dramatic scenery and more activities and resources, Tenerife or Gran Canaria are probably better.

There are some excellent 4 and 5 star AI resorts, or the RC Abama on Tenerife is well-regarded.

There’s also a wealth of high-end self-catering type apartments where you can have all your baby stuff but eat in restaurants for maximum convenience. If you haven’t travelled with a baby before, it’s like going on tour with someone like J Lo because of the amount of stuff they need!

    Isrotel Dead Sea?

There isn’t much to do in that area other than sit back and relax.

Have personally stayed there with an infant and really enjoyed it.

I’m thinking Dead Sea and Red Sea. Some good hotels at Aqaba.

We went to the H10 Suites Lanzarote Gardens which is very well set up for a baby, they can do puree food, there is a creche and babysitters if you wanted, Dr right outside etc.

It isn’t super luxury but nor is the price point. Food was enjoyable with plenty of choice and you could get cocktails etc on the all inclusive (though with 2 x baby we really didn’t get our moneys worth but we had a lovely terrace and we’d take turns to nip back to the bar to grab drinks of an evening)

We hired a car from Cabrera Medina which came with free car seats and drove around a bit but the resort is nice for a stroll. I’d say I prefer the Playa Blanca resort area but for a few days sun it was all good!

In January we are going to Tenerife to the gf isabel . One of the main criteria for me is a cost effective ability to shut the kids in somewhere to sleep so I don’t end up hiding in the bathroom after 7pm 😂

That said having just been to Asia with 2x 18 month olds I’d almost be tempted to say take the 6 month old, especially if they’re a good sleeper. They’ll fit in a bassinet on the flight, their nap schedule is probably more fluid, you haven’t got to worry about feeding them beyond some pouches you can take with you and they are immobile so having them in a hotel etc is a lot easier . But I’m personally not sure that long haul is worth it with young kids at all, I don’t see us doing it again for a good number of years!

Israel would be a good choice, but I wouldn’t go to Dead Sea, a day trip is enough there for me. November in Tel Aviv should be hot enough for the beach. We just came back from there with our 5 month old. It was a bit too hot, November would have been better. Very baby friendly everywhere, city is easily walkable with a pram.

We booked an apartment and the extra space, full kitchen, compared to a hotel was very convenient. We could still easily go out for a meal – lots of places with 5 min walk from our door.

It’s not a cheap place though, with restaurants about London prices, or maybe a little more. If you are just looking for a resort then Aqaba in Jordan will be much cheaper, but it’s a change of flight or a long drive.

Long haul business class flights (BA club world or Virgin upper) with lots of points availability, is much more pleasent for 4.5hours than canary islands on a short haul pane.
