Hi
I’ve spent ages this evening trying to figure out how to book and mixed cabin flight and I have not succeeded!!
The change in website on BA seems to make it impossible.. how do I book this business on way out return in economy- cash fare? I’ve tried all variations of classes to see but when I select business out it will only give me business return options and the same with economy- help!
Call them!?
But I managed fine e.g. below:
It certainly seemed buggy booking as a return but worked fine when I selected multi city to price it up. You obviously want to make sure if you go the multi city route that it isn’t gouging you on fare construction though.

If you’re booking a BA holiday you can’t do this online, but as flight only you should be given all options when you come to select each leg. I know the app limits what you can book but all cabins should appear on the normal website.

It didnt yesterday, I gave up. As the OP said you couldnt select individual classes on a multi leg
And the website changed and managed to get worse during the day. After selecting a flight only booking and trying to add a hotel it would only give one and that was the IC at a grand for 5 nights.
Ended up with a trip to Prague from Man with a hotel for £588 biz all legs which was the best I could find for Nov. Ah well at least I’ll get carryon space on the Man-LHR with sitting at the front.
BA’s website is a total joke.
I was trying to avoid calling them! Have called now and They’re not taking sales calls at the minute 🙁
I’ve tried the multi trip and that doesn’t seem to work either- I’ve also tried app and website – no joy there! Agggh so frustrating!
BA “not taking sales calls” ? Really?
What on earth is going on?
Is there such a mess with BA’s existing bookinga, that they have to pull staff off earning future revenue for the company to fix? Seems shortsighted to me.
Also as posters here have said, in ordee not to strangle BA’s future revenue stream, refusing to take money over the phone would only seem to be workable if ypu have a website that can sell the tickets instead.
Try clearing your cookies, incognito browser, screaming loudly, take up a religion etc.
Which route and dates? I’m intrigued to see if it is just you.
You could try and find an old school travel agent to book it for you but then there is the hassle of not having booked directly.
You could try a higher hassle manoeuvre of booking the flights you want in economy and then seeing if you can upgrade to business via manage my booking. If you cannot and you call within 24 hours you can cancel free of charge (subject to their terms) but even thinking of having to do this to spend your money with BA is asinine.
Or you could send me some bitcoin and I could totally book it for you because I’m incredibly honest and that wouldn’t end badly at all.
Sometimes BA’s website just hates you and it is infuriating. I had a spell (as did others) when Avios searches timed out for me but apparently the functionality was fine and it was just us not them.
Not quite – the wording on the automated message is along the lines of “We’ve taken the decision to prioritise customer service calls over sales calls, so we can assist people who need our help urgently – If you are at the airport and your flight has been disrupted or cancelled, please press 1. Anything else, please hold the line”
It then routes you accordingly – so they will take sales calls if the call centre isn’t busy dealing with people with missed flights/connections/delays/cancellations at airports.
It’s not great though.
They should have a dedicated flight disruption line tbh – it is off-putting when you are trying to use a broken website, and then face a long time on a phone call because they can’t get their technology right…
What route is it? Usually just picking economy brings up all the options. Have you tried the app?
Otherwise call in and select the change booking option, I can’t imagine they’ll refuse to sell it to you, they don’t seem as busy at the moment
Thank you all- I was really trying to avoid phoning but I had to in the end- seems the only way around a mixed class booking.
For the record the route is LHR- Dub and I’ve just checked – it’s still like that on the website 🙁
I had exactly this issue trying to book LHR – EDI a few weeks ago. Couldn’t make it work at all. But it did seem to work for other destinations. The business fare in one direction was exceptionally cheap so I did wonder whether that fare class was incompatible with an economy ticket but in the end gave up and booked business both ways.
I did use the chat function and the agent told me they were now open for sales calls. This sounds like it might have been incorrect information though.
