Hi, I’m a long-time lurker, first-time poster.

I’ve managed to secure reward flights from LHR to HND with my Amex companion voucher. I still need to book my return flight, but I’m thinking rather than fly back from Tokyo, I’d rather do the return leg from Hong Kong, making it an open-jaw trip. Looking at the rules the return leg must be equal to or shorter than the outbound leg, given that the flight distance between LHR and HND is 9615km and LHR to 9648km this seems to fall outside of BAs rules but since the distance between them is only 33km would it be allowed?

You have misread the rules. The requirement is that the distance between the remote arrival & departure points must be less than each of the flights.
