Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Open jaw to Asia …. better booked as two single flights?

  • 6 posts

    Hi

I am half way through booking an open jaw redemption to SE Asia next November/December. LHR-SIN BKK-LHR. The return leg will be released in a few days.

Is it better/cheaper to book 2 singles for this journey, or should I be on the telephone to add a return to the PNR I already have? The outbound was £401 and the return looks to be £183.

If I book the return leg online and call to combine the 2 PNR will I get charged a fee?

    Thanks in advance.

The only way you can add the inbound to your existing outbound PNR is to call and they can make it a return ticket, but then you pay ‘taxes’ for a return – so you need to check return vs one-way taxes.

If you book them separately, they will never be combined into a single PNR (although a companion voucher can be applied across both legs), and if you ever want to cancel the whole trip it would be twice the cancellation fee.

If you have to call, because the inbound wasn’t available initially, or for an open jaw which can’t be done online, you should not be charged.

Worth checking the carrier surcharge / taxes difference between the two with dummy bookings.

HKG was the classic one for these with ultra low taxes ex-HKG two singles was always better value. Although if using 2-4-1 on Avios booking then you’d have to convert into a return ticket and get charged substantially more.

241 can be applied across 2 one-ways. As you say, can be good going east but worse to/from USA where a return is cheaper.

Ah, that’s good to know. I didn’t think I could do that when I added a HKG return to one a few years back.
