Flying LGW to MRU 4x club world seats. Used 2x companion vouchers. Missed the return leg on dates wanted.
I ended up booking return on emirates or return date i wanted economy as the A380 is good and it was cheap. No chance that 4 club world seats will get released.
Is it possible to call book an open jaw return e.g from Johannesburg as much as 8-9 months later. I’m thinking fly cape town with Norse outbound and fly back using this. As good saving on avios to be made my thinking
As long as you book the return before flying the outbound, and the open jaw bit is shortest leg, then, historically, yes. Much recent discussion on whether BA has to allow this, or if strictly by its Ts and Cs, you need to book both legs at once, but at the moment, it seems BA are still allowing adding the return at a later date…

Yes, you can do that with the open jaw return from Johannesburg up to 12 months from the date of the first flight. You might get an agent that isn’t too clued up and says no, so if necessary call again. They might charge you a change fee but shouldn’t charge any telephone fee as you can’t make this booking online.
Thanks. WouLd the return flight of the open jaw have to be booked over phone using agent. Or could I book avios over Internet and call for refund on the avios.
(Seen the discussion about callers at midnight being clamped down on)
Either. The example I cite is using an expiring 241 from the pandemic. Booked MAN-LHR-GIB outbound, for April 2022, then subsequently booked AGP-LHR-MAN to fly 10 months later. Called BA and they refunded the 50% avios for the inbound leg with no quibbles.
Just be aware that the inbound leg has to be unavailable (as in not yet released) when the outbound is booked to guarantee that BA will play ball on this, so bear this in mind when booking your return flight.

In theory, it might be possible if the JNB-LHR only becomes available when you book, but because what you are doing isn’t entirely routine, I would be disinclined to risk it and call instead. I’m not sure if there would be any difference in your namesake TFCs with two bookings on this route.
