    Hi all,

Hope everyone can help me with a good problem. I have a large upcoming expense of about 7k-8k, and am debating on which credit card to put it on.

I currently have a Marriott AMEX, a Gold AMEX, and the free Barclaycard Avios. I have already maxed out the benefits on the Marriott AMEX (IE 25k spend).

As such, I am wondering whether it’s worth taking out either an upgraded Barclaycard Avios or a Virgin Atlantic + card. I travel enough to consider the virgin card potentially worth it. Only thing I’m worried about is starting with a low credit limit (IE less than 7-8k).

Alternative is to put all the spend on the Gold AMEX and just rack up loads of points there.

    Any advise appreciated!

There’s a whole section on credit cards on this site. Read that? 🤷

You’re rather assuming that any or all of those CCs will approve your application.

Andif they so that the credit limit will meet your needs.

Barclays you can see in the app right away whether you are eligible for an upgrade.

You need to do the sums to see if the premium card is worth the fee, the upgrade voucher is the same, so can you use it, is the extra 0.5 worth it?

We won’t be able to tell you what starting limit you will get without more income info and what your current credit across all your cards.

The real question is, which loyalty schemes are you collecting in?

For most people, Avios makes the most sense as there are multiple ways to build up enough points to make it worthwhile to use the points. If that’s what you’re after then go for the card which will give you the most Avios, which I guess would be the Barclaycard Avios Plus.

I had a similar issue a few years ago. I went for the Virgin Mastercard and I got the credit limit increased to 10k on request. Providing your credit is good then it shouldn’t be issue with Virgin.
