Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club oneworld Sapphire, benefits on AA booking

    Hi all,

Could anyone help, looking at booking DUB-LHR-JFK on AA website but the DUB-LHR leg is of course operated by BA. It would be a basic economy ticket which normally gives no luggage but AA recognise the status still so I would get luggage with AA. However, would this be an issue checking in at the BA desk to start the trip? Do I need to find a routing that is all on AA?

How about the return leg if starting the trip on AA?

    Thank you

Hoping to bump this please as can’t find an answer anywhere and the AA chat doesn’t fill me with confidence

Can’t you select standard economy on the BA flight? What options are you getting?

    Who tickets it? AA?

I think there are few variable as normally you would get the largest allowance across all legs of the trip is all book on one ticket.

Also if the ticket is issued by AA you may get their published allowance (it has been certainly the case for bookings I have had issued by BA but operated by QR – in my case I actually got a lower bug gage allowance then if it had been issued directly by QR).

Another factor is that contrary to AA policy for their own status holder and extended to other OW equivalent, BA does not give their own status holders luggage allowance on Basic tariff.

In any case, I would ask the question on the BA forum on FlyerTalk where you have a bigger pool of readers.

It’s an AA ticket so basic economy throughout the trip (no need to purchase main economy as receive all the benefits via the OW status anyway)

Thank you appreciate the flyer talk advice
