Forums Other Destination advice Parking in Los Angeles

Hi everyone, I would appreciate some advice. My girlfriend and I are heading to LA next month. We have visited once before but we didn’t drive ourselves. This time, we have found a good price for car hire and would value the extra freedom of driving. However, we are staying at the Oceana in Santa Monica and the Edition in West Hollywood, both of which charge $65 a night for valet parking. I am also given to understand that we will be required to tip valet staff, as the hotel presumably just pockets the exorbitant fee.

Please could anyone advise if they know some good residential streets or parking lots near these locations that we could park our car at? Or if they know any good ways of finding said parking opportunities? Thank you.

Stayed at Oceana SM last year. You’ll love it – very nice hotel (so it should be for cash cost although I’m guessing you’re not paying that as we’re on this site :D) Yeah, valet parking charges are comical there and it’s actually less convenient than parking nearby. Have a look at the streetview outside the hotel … those spaces literally across the road were definitely free after a certain time (6PM?) and extremely cheap by UK standards the rest of the time and streetview gives an accurate indication about how busy they were.

EDIT: It is $2/hr with a 5 hr max between 9-AM-6PM. So arrive at 1PM, pay $10 and you’re good until the next day…

    Thank you, that’s very helpful!

We actually stayed at the Oceana last August when it was still 95k points a night. Paying 120k points a night this year but still better than $1000 a night 😂
