Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Partners Avios Plus card – Can we use the same BAEC acount?

  • 5 posts

I’m just about to hit the £3k/25k Avios bonus on the Barclaycard Avios plus, I’m the main card holder and my partner is an additional card holder, we’re about to open a Avios plus card for them (with me as an additional card holder) for another sweet 25k Avios. Question is can we put all the Avios into my BAEC account to will they need their own one? The plan is to use them to fly LON to AKL (likely via qatar airways so 241 or upgrade vouchers aren’t of use) in spring 2026, hoping once we’ve got and the next Barclays sign up bonus we can move to Amex and repeat, the minimum we’re aiming for is 45k Avios(1 person one way) with a hope of 90k and unlikely dreams of 180k, two people both ways economy.

They need their own BAEC account.

If you then create a BA Household Account the avios will then be effectively pooled.

I agree about the Household account and that they each need their own individual accounts linked. However, if @Pointer (welcome by the way) wants to use Qatar, as I understand it, Qatar only links to your personal (not whole household) balance, so there might be some logistical issues with that?

Yep. He then needs to set up accounts at Finnair, transfer balances there from BA, then transfer from partner to his within Finnair and then finally move it back to BA.

You can use BAEC to redeem on QR and the BA household account would take avios from both members as required.

If redeeming through QRPC, each person can just redeem their own ticket as it sounds like they will have similar amounts of avios each.

Thanks for the input all, looks like we will need a second account then. I guess we’ll run separate accounts assumeing we get 45k each, but pool them via household accounts/try the Finnair trick if l it looks unlikely that we’ll get that many each.
