Forums Payment cards American Express Paying TV licence via Co Op Paypoint

  • 8 posts

    Hi all,

I’m trying to put all my big spends on the Amex to accrue points and reach the threshold spend for the companion voucher.

I’ve read that some people have been paying their TV licence at certain Co Ops via Paypoint. However I just tried to renew my license at my local one and gave them my TV licence number, but they said I needed a bar code? I’m assuming this would be on a renewal letter/bill of some sort. I only have a renewal email reminder without a barcode, I normally pay online with debit card.

Has anyone who has done this successfully, please shed some light? Thanks

Have you tried generating the licence online as IIRC there is one on that version.

You have to ask them to send you a payment card. That’s what paypoint accepts. Plus a limit of £29 (l think ) per payment. So you can’t pay it all at once.

I’m not sure if that is true, says this on the TV licence website:

“Show the retailer your renewal letter, and pay the full licence fee by debit card or cash. They’ll give you a receipt and a payment slip. Please keep these, as they are proof of your licence. We won’t send you a separate TV Licence if you renew at PayPoint. However, you can view your licence any time online.”

I know it says debit card but I’ve read people having success using Amex.

If you request the invoice by post, it should have a barcode and you can pay at Paypoint (amex at co-op works).
There is no £29 limit, you can pay it all at once.

Yes, if you have the full bar coded invoice, you pay in full. With a payment card, there is a limit at our paypoint….

Thanks for confirming! Just called them up and they are going to send me the barcode renewal letter. Hopefully it will work at my local Co op as apparently not all Paypoint will take Amex.

Yes, it depends on the type of Co-op. In my town, the “blue” one work fine, the “green” one doesn’t take Amex for paypoint.
