Hi all. Bit late on this one but has anyone else had this letter? Never have an issue before paying OH account off. What’s going on? Thanks
There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. I can’t actually remember if I’ve had any communication about it, I think people were also getting emails. I can’t think they would start refusing current DD payments – are they actually checking all the details which were supplied when these were initially set up?
Wasn’t this related to people using a business bankaccount to pay off their personal Amex card bill or a using a personal bank account to pay their Amex business card bill?
The recently revamped online statements now have this wording added.
‘You must pay from a personal account in your own name. If you do not, you may experience disruption to your Account with us.’
I thought it was the same thing, as there was a discussion about there not being any law in the UK requiring people to use the same name in all their financial dealings.
Thanks all. Personal bank a/c and OH personal Amex so no business accounts here. Will do some more searching back for the original thread.

Amex has simply been tightening up in the last three months to ensure that it knows the source of funds paying off its cards so it wants to see the funds paying your personal Amex coming from your personal account. HMRC & FCA keen and Amex doesn’t want personal/business cross payments. It specifically says that if this a problem to contact them to discuss specific circumstances. Not sure why it is a big deal.
OH closed his BA Amex account a few months ago but a BA holiday was cancelled by BA recently and refunded onto the card. OH contacted Amex to get the refund transferred to him/cheque sent – this would only be done when he provided the two months of bank statements to prove where the money for the holiday payments came from, as he pays off his BA Amex with his debit card. Seems commonplace at the moment, but Amex are epically poor in explaining this in their communications and letters, which meant it took some time and several submissions of evidence before we worked out what they actually wanted before issuing the refund. Clunky is a polite way of describing it.
