Forums Other London life Pizza Express Club is changing

Something that I’ve always thought isn’t talked about much here is the Pizza Express Club.

Anyway, rather like BA, they’re moving the goalposts. Pitched as a ‘refresh’ ‘in line with customer feedback’. Clearly they hold BA strategy in high regard.

As Gold, free water seems to have been culled.

I’ll leave it for others to analyse or feedback in more detail.

The prices seems to have been hiked massively over the last few years, being Gold had taken the edge off things.

It’s not as bad as I feared. Remember you can use Tastecard there again. Plus the £7 any day pizzas from O2 Priority (which don’t mix with any other offers).

Can TasteCard be used together with the ‘Club’?

You can’t redeem free stuff, but the transactions still give you a pizza stamp. Same with O2.

I dined last night. £35 bill reduced £20 to £15 with Gold benefits. I mused that something was bound to change for the worse.

It looks like it’s now free hot drink OR free cold drink. Not both. And thus a change from free hot drink or dolcetti.

    But the FAQs were insufficient.

It doesn’t seem too bad (says a Gold).

I never used the free coffee because I’m only ever there with the kids and obviously they don’t want to sit around whilst I drink one.

Getting to swap the free dough balls for a dough balls OR a side is decent, because you always get a free dough balls with every meal as long as you fill out the questionnaire they send.

I agree it was getting silly though. I took my son in my birthday month (so I got a free pizza) and it came to £20 for two when I knocked off two free dough balls, 1 free soft drink and 1 free pizza.

Even better, I dropped from Gold to Silver during my birthday month and the ‘free pizza for your birthday’ benefit reset – so I got another one!

Was this announced in an email? When do the changes take effect? Benefits look the same in the app at present

Email yesterday. Effective from 28th April. A bit sneaky that the app and website still have the old info which could annoy any new signups. The T’s and C’s seem to have been updated though

Not to advertise it too much, but have people properly read the T&Cs for the Gold BD reward, which remains unchanged? 🙂

The staff are always surprised when it works!

Any hints – I can’t see anything surprising in there?

On a different topic, it looks like in the new scheme you can choose other varieties of dough ball, not just the plain ones – that’s an improvement.

    “On your birthday month:

    • One choice of a free Classic or Romana pizza (excludes Large Classic) or a free bottle of wine or prosecco”

Interestingly it used to say “any” bottle of wine or prosecco – I do hope that is still the case!

    2. Your Reward gives you one of the below options for free when you spend £10 or more. Choose from: • any Classic, Leggera or Romana pizza*, excluding Duo Romana, Calabrese and Large Classic pizza

The asterisks are just the usual “can’t serve under 18’s” etc

I’ve been stockpiling the QR codes from the supermarket pizzas, as they used to have flash periods where they were worth triple when entering them into the app. Sadly I haven’t seen this come up in a long time now.

Don’t understand this. Why wouldn’t they also be drinking coffee?

I believe young people only drink smoothies or bubble tea nowadays..

So for Gold the most worthwhile benefit a free Dolcetti has been removed and essentially replaced with a free dip! Water has gone and the ability to have a soft drink plus a hot drink also gone. Prices have increased substantially but Gold made us visit more, no longer!

I’ve just moved up to Gold, but mostly from supermarket pizzas, so don’t really understand how the benefits work/interact.

Is it possible to combine the various rewards? Eg free dough balls, drink and piccolo meal on the same bill?

I know you can’t combine with Tesco vouchers, but are there any deals/discounts that can be used?

Aside from the free choice of wine on your birthday, are there any other good tips to maximise value?

Pizza Express used to be a regular go to when we got 4x Tesco, but since that changed and prices increased its only an occasional trip now

You can either use a set menu or percentage off offers that might be live OR you can use ALL your applicable Gold benefits.

The benefits also apply on delivery. Meaning I always claim my free Piccolo meal to have as lunch the next day.

I keep winning £20 vouchers from O2 priority blue mondays…

Has anyone else had any luck? and what would be the best way to maximise? 🙂

Dang, I keep winning “free” flowers that cost a fiver and are a real pain to claim…

You can combine Club rewards with the free dough balls voucher you get for completing the customer experience survey (more useful now that the gold entitlement is for any dough balls or a side).

You can use PE gift cards to pay, which can typically be acquired at a ~10% discount to face value, but you can’t use them to pay in the app or for delivery.

If you have a child and aren’t in the mood for a proper meal, you can spend £10 on drinks (nb there are currently 2x cocktails for £10). At no extra charge, this gets the child a three-course meal, you get some dough balls or a side to snack on and then there’s a free soft or hot drink as well (and a dip I guess). Hard to argue with the value!
