You may not be astonished to learn that I have failed to get clarification of my questions at Amex. Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but it’s hard to search for nebulous terms.
– I’m the Plat (personal) cardholder. I’m 61 and without pre-existing conditions. Fine so far, but
– OH (and additional cardholder) is 70 and falling apart at the seams.
I know the insurance doesn’t cover OH but does it still cover me, or does his age nullify it all? AND. . .
– IF I’m the main driver/hirer of a hire car but OH is a named driver, do I still get the cover?
I’ve even read the policy document but the wording doesn’t cover these questions.
TIA
Logic would say yes.
But logic is not safe with Amex’s insurer…
I had damage claim disallowed because “anything with wheels is excluded” according to the internal rules that they do not publish, the policy makes no mention of this – a pushchair? no, a sleigh? covered, a bike? no, skis? covered.
Couldn’t be bothered to go through the process of disputing it through the ombudsman.
The only sure way is ask the insurer and keep the response.
As above, logic might suggest there’s no issue, but by having an ineligible driver on the contract you run the risk in the event of a claim of questions being raised as to who was driving or responsible for the car at the time of any damage. It potentially offers quite an easy get out for any claim. There’s also the issue of the hire car company accepting an over 70 driver.
