Hello all,
I needed to book some travel for later in autumn, for my upcoming trip to Japan. I decided to take advantage of the Platinum bonus, and therefore I upgraded from the Gold Rewards to the AMEX Platinum in July, and reached the £6000 spend needed for the bonuses to be triggered.
In the AMEX app I can see the “Platinum Upgrade Bonus” for 40000 points. Right above that, I can see “£400 Travel Credit Voucher” for 0 points. I can see the total points that now include the 40000 bonus. However, it is not clear where I can find the £400 voucher.
I might want to make a booking for spring 2025 for a different trip, but how will this voucher be applied? Will this be applied automatically when I make a booking through AMEX travel? Do I just need to be logged in and pay with the Platinum card?
Many thanks for any help
Log in at travel.americanexpress.co.uk using the Amex account linked to your Platinum card.
The voucher should be visible somewhere and you will be given the option of applying it when making a qualifying booking.
Remember you need to use it in one go for a prepaid flight or hotel.
Not sure if you have to pay now and get the £400 back later, which is now the Business Platinum annual £200 one works.
Thank you Rob,
After logging in, there is a button with the label “Show travel credits” which I hadn’t noticed before. When I click it, it shows the £400 voucher and its expiration date.
Also appreciate the tip for using it in one go for a flight or hotel.
Many thanks 🙂
Whoa this is concerning! I just made a nonrefundable £600+ booking via FHR and the HfP article stated the credit is ‘via a statement credit’.
I had no option of applying a voucher, and my card has been charged with £600+ and I expected a credit to land soon.
Looking on the Amex travel site, my (very old) long since cancelled Amex Platinum is showing in the list with the £400 voucher wording… but not my actual platinum card.
Am I up a creek without a paddle?
I’ve just replicated the booking on the old card account and the voucher is still there, 4 business days after booking, stating: “Your Card will be charged £638.00 today. A credit of £400.00 for your Annual Travel Credit will be applied to your statement within 3 business days of your reservation.”
It’s not looking good :-/
Case lodged with Amex. What a nightmare.
didnt exactly want to open a new thread and as this thread is about AMEX travel/Plat benefits…
I have the legacy plat charge card, and am planning to buy a ticket on amextravel uk.
Now they 2x points on amextravel uk, but is that only for the new credit card or also the old charge card too? (Not exactly the benefits I normally look at so I don’t remember if it used to be there)

on top of the plat card offer (1x bonus on Amex travel UK), the GOLD has a 2x bonus on Amex travel UK. first year fee free. maybe i will do just that, and probably cancel the card later on.
I assume I cant get a Gold supplementary card from my partner’s Plat and get the same benefit? Also, should I assume one may transfer the MR of a Gold card to the MR os plat card if i were to cancel the Gold card?
My wife had just qualified the £400 credit on her personal card but every time she goes to the travel website it just links to her Business card so doesn’t show any available voucher/credit. Very frustrating.
Had similar on my account when I was trying to put a hotel booking spend on one card to get towards a bonus but it would only link to a different Amex for payment.
As I’m grumbling… Neither of the dining awards have been credited. Plus the online booking functionality for the hotels is terrible. Calling up is no fun either.
The bonus points did at least show up almost a soon as the spend target was achieved.
Bumping an older thread here I know…
How soon after meeting the spend requirement (£6K) does one get the travel voucher? And is an email sent out as well?

You should receive it in 1-2 days. Not sure about the email. But it will show up in your Amex account as Rob mentioned above.. and it will show up in your Points summary in the app as a separate line.

Many thanks for this.
I think I’ve met the spend now – just waiting for some transactions to go through and show up on the account so shouldn’t be long now.
