When you use a personal platinum to get into the Eurostar lounge, how does it work? Do you literally flash the card and walk in, do they scan it, do they check it against your ticket and passport, or something else?
You show them the card and they check it’s issued to the same name as the traveller on the ticket. They also normally check the back to ensure it is a UK-issued card (you can tell by the UK phone numbers printed on it).
It isn’t swiped, because they don’t have swipe machines in the lounge – no-one can pay to enter so they don’t need them.

In which case you can use a cancelled card?

Well, you can try if you wish to commit a fraud.
The CPS charging guidelines state:
“the defendant’s conduct must be dishonest;
his/her intention must be to make a gain; or cause a loss or the risk of a loss to another.
No gain or loss needs actually to have been made.
The maximum sentence is 10 years’ imprisonment.”
You might well be able to blag your way in successfully and not much will happen if you are caught but do you seriously think it necessary or appropriate to commit an offence just to get into some lounge?
On a lesser note, you are in breach of the Amex T&Cs for not destroying your card(s) upon cancellation.

No thanks, it’s not the sort of thing I would personally do, I just find it odd that Eurostar don’t check the card is live. I find it interesting that they leave potential gaps in the system like this.

@jdb how does one go about destroying an Amex platinum card? Don’t think my scissors would get through one.
Well, if you don’t have the wherewithal to destroy it yourself, you can return it to Amex who will provide a prepaid envelope for this purpose. A bit of a bore, but probably better than trying to use it to nick some cheap booze/food off Eurostar.
@ed_fly Angle grinder 😊
i’ll grab one out of my shed 🙂
I lost mine in the garden – when I found it amongst the strawberry plants it had delaminated in the rain – maybe that’s the way to go 🙂
