Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points
I have reached my Amex Platinum £6000 target for 40000 reward points after 4 weeks. I also have a BA Avios rewards card and am on my wife’s BA Avios card.
I would like to cancel my card and get a prorata refund on the £650 fee. When is the earliest time I can do this and is the refund calculated daily or monthly. I will be converting the reward points to Avios in my BA account. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.
Arguably sooner but safer to let the points hit your BA account. Don’t forget to hang your head in shame for Amex allowing themselves to be milked!
Technically you can cancel and have 30 days to move your points out, but as above I would play it safe and make sure you move your points out first AND that they have arrived in the destination account, before cancelling.
If not cancelling for a shameful refund were to cause your blood pressure to rise then you could do it with a clear conscience as the high blood pressure would invalidate the insurance anyway.
Thank you all. Already wearing black, seemed the decent thing to do. Anyone know how the refund is calculated? Bernard
