I am looking to book InterContinental Montreal over Easter with the Ambassador free night voucher, but we are arriving in Montreal 5 days after the voucher expiry. I would be gutted to let the free night voucher expire.
Was thinking of possible alternatives to somehow use it. Following came to mind, can someone confirm if any of these scenarios are feasible:
1) Is it possible to consume the voucher somehow online or by calling Ambassador helpline?
2) Is it possible to request Ambassador helpline to extend the voucher by a week? I can make a booking online to give them the confidence that I am serious about my visit, if that helps.TIA.
You can extend your Ambassador membership (and voucher by extension) for two or six months once in a lifetime. Six months is for those who had Ambassador membership for over two years in a row.
Looks like I will need to see if IHG will extend my first ever Ambassador by 2 months then
I’d be happy to give the voucher to someone else but IIRC it’s been said on here the Ambassador member must check in, if I recall correctly. A pity, as some friends could do with a short break somewhere nice after a recent issue and the price range of their nearest IC is fine for them – the voucher would sweeten it a bit.

Worth emailing the ambassador help desk to ask if you can use the voucher to treat your friends? They’ll sometimes go beyond policy/T&C’s to be helpful, and it seems like a pretty reasonable thing to ask
Is the Ambassador weekend night expiry date a “book by” or “use by” date?
Mine expires tomorrow, and am looking at a booking in May.
(worst is that my new Ambassador year will give me a voucher to use then.)
Officially it is use by. Valid voucher needs to be presented at check in. Although that wasn’t the case for me last week when I used mine.
You can get a 2 or 6 month extension, as mentioned above, but you might have left it a bit late to ask!
You can extend your Ambassador membership (and voucher by extension).
Unfortunately if you extend your membership the voucher does not get extended and will expire at its original date, this is in their T&C. Realised it just recently when had exactly the same issue as Bella Ciao.
Data point – I asked for an extension recently and my free night was also extended so it can depend on how you ask …
Voucher extended via chat for 2 months (thanks as always to @NorthernLass !!)
Try one more time. I’m sure who you ask as well as how you ask can make a difference.
Of course it may have something to do with diamond status, or number of stays booked etc.Oh well, tried the chat – is it just me getting old, or is the chat writing really small?
No joy, but have renewed for 2024 – so have one for that.

Of course it may have something to do with diamond status, or number of stays booked etc.I have already booked a Lisbon stay before the voucher expiration. Following my OH wishes) and looking forward to this spontaneous travel experience!
Another data point here on a successful extension. I have been a Diamond Ambassador for a couple of years, mainly using the Ambassador ‘trick’ to renew my Diamond status.
Now this IT ‘glitch’ no longer works I was less enthusiastic about spending to renew the Ambassador status alone – in spite of @Rob ‘s comments here https://www.headforpoints.com/2023/05/31/review-intercontinental-ambassador-2/. This was partly because I had found myself not using my complimentary weekend night voucher in the last year and it was due to expire on March 1st.
Having seen the advice in this thread, and noting that I have been an Ambassador member for at least 2 years and have not had any extensions previously, I emailed ambassador@IHG.com with my request and within an hour had received a reply stating they would extend both Ambassador status AND my free weekend night by six months… very impressed at IHG’s responsiveness here.
TLDR : Ask and you shall receive!
They extended mine, but turned out when I checked just after, that did not include the voucher.
So I have a useless extension but they denied extending the voucher – the reason I’d requested the extension. I’d assumed it was included in the extension – never occurred to me it might not be.
I hate Philippines call centres and if I”d known the Ambassador call centre was based in the Philippines I would never have called.
Too late now I think – as I’m thinking the miserable call centre will have put a note on my file.
@LL I’ve found they are very responsive by email, much better than the call centre, it’s got to be worth a go, nothing to lose and all that?
ok.. anyone got the email address please?
LL, have you emailed the Ambassador team? They are usually really good. Extending membership has twice got me a voucher extension, I would have thought that was evident from such a request! I emailed them at the end of last year when my voucher was expiring and they extended it until the end of April (though I actually managed to use it at the ICPL last month).
Lol @strickers just beat me to it!
Don’t be scared to lay it on thick, grovelling worked for me, lol.
Thanks both @NL and @Strickers, will sum up my courage and give it a go
