I use the USD travel wallet facility with my Premier Account. It works well and is convenient.
I seem to be having issues with refunds though. Just checking through the transactions after a recent trip, and I notice that pre authorisations aren’t being credited back. There’s a couple of fuel transactions for $1 and a hotel transaction for $100 that haven’t been credited back.
I did ring the hotel and they’ve confirmed that a credit was made on the day I checked out, and that was almost a month ago.
Anyone else notice this? Similar transactions on a credit card do show a related credit to cancel them out.
That’s strange- I’ve used both USD and EUR and not experienced this behaviour an either, have worked perfectly across all manner of transactions.

Where does the credit apply to? I’m assuming the system should recognise a refund as USD and I should see it in the USD wallet, rather than my Premier Account?
Pre authorisations are just released rather than credited, so they effectively disappear to be replaced by the actual transaction, if relevant.
If you are talking about the HSBC Global Money account, it’s a debit card and in most countries, debit cards just don’t work well for pre-authorisations, hence the refund issues.
It’s not something debit cards are really designed to handle and many hotels/car hire companies won’t accept debit cards for a hold/pre-authorisation. The same applies to Curve as a pretend debit card.
This is the barclays subforum – but yes whenever I’ve used curve for preauths or transactions which get partially refunded or changed from the initial amount, it never shows the correct amount in curve. On the underlying card everything is fine.
To the OP, is the overall USD balance correct and just individual transactions not showing properly? Also these $1 transactions can take up to 30 days to correct themselves so you may have to wait a while.

No the balance showing includes these transactions, they’ve come off the total balance as debits, and haven’t been reversed, removed or credited back with the same amount. They appear as normal purchases alongside everything else.

This is a Barclays debit card, but I’m starting to think the same thing.
Guess I’ll be giving them a call tomorrow.

Time to consider whether it works well for credit hold transactions, and consequently is convenient.
