Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Proving BA status on American Airlines

I am looking to book some US domestic trips this summer but I was wondering how you prove your BA status (Silver) to get benefits on AA like free checked baggage, lounge access etc. Is it printed on your boarding card or do you need to do anything when you buy the flight – presume you do it through ba.com?

    Thanks for any tips

I am Silver and flew DCA to Key West last month. I booked these as award seats on ba.com and was able to click through to the AA website to select my seats after booking. I was expecting to have to argue with the ground crew over free baggage allowance, but the automated checking machine “knew” that I was Silver and charged us $0.

They let 3 of us in the lounge without quibble (as my son is under 18) on showing the BA app and OH and I were upgraded (though that’s not as big as deal as it sounds) to AA First so they could give our seats to standby passengers. All in all, very happy!

Have your BAEC number in the booking and it’ll all be fine.

You can’t book stand alone cash paid AA flights via BA.

So whether you book via AA or Expedia just make sure your BA number is in the booking. There is a drop down menus enabling you to select BA and add your BAEC number which will.

Eventually be printed on your BP.

You can then use the AA app to manage the flight and select seats etc

Yes as long as ff number on booking all good. You’ll even get main cabin extra seats on aa (more legroom and free booze). Just be careful with baggage, you get the extra pieces but only up to 23kg, there’s no 32kg allowance for elites on aa in econ.

Yes, as Silver, Bronze and Blue we got 3 x 23kg checked luggage plus hand baggage allowance for 3 of us which was plenty – and we don’t pack light!
There was a woman on the flight with a cat strapped to the front of her so clearly the cabin luggage rules are pretty wide – though I don’t know what would have happened if any passenger had had an allergy to animals!

Thanks everyone for experiences, it would be avios bookings. Best to set up an AA account I guess?

No. You don’t need an AA account.

You use their web site / appas a guest once you get the AA PNR from BA

Yes, you don’t want an AA FF anywhere near the booking as then you won’t get your benefits

As in my post – you can book award flights on ba.com then click through from MMB to AA to add seats and do OLCI.
