I’ve just got back to being a main account holder after a couple of years hiatus. Previously, I was the main account holder with a BAPP and I’m fairly certain, with Purchase Alert notifications on in the app, I would get a notification from the app whenever I made a purchase and whenever a purchase was made on a supplementary card. That doesn’t seem to be the case now.
Am I making things up/remembering things badly, or does anyone else remember this happening – even better, still gets notifications?
This isn’t about SAFEKey or Spend Limits, incidentally…
I still get notifications when I spend using my Amex. You need to set it up for each card separately in the app. I’ve never received notifications when the supplementary card holders use their card though but again, they can receive notifications when they spend, as long as they too have set it up in their app.
I get notifications for spend on my card, but not for my wife’s supplementary card. I’m sure I did with a previous card.
I don’t see why I can’t, nor shouldn’t, as they are purchases being posted to my account.
The advice from online in-app chat has been for her to update her settings and put my email and phone number in – but a) that misses the point HUGELY (how would she then get notifications of purchases on her supp card?) and b) means that I would also get notifications about spend on her other card, where she is the main card holder.

I would guess that the only reason you previously received the supplementary cardholder notification was that they had not set up the card on their own Amex profile. You can only receive notifications to one telephone number, so the advice they gave you is correct.
Perhaps your wife has since created her own Amex profile, and now added this supplementary card to it. She is also only able to see her transactions within her app, however you will be able to see both transactions (with a note about the supp cardholder name under the transactions made with her card).
I have both my main and my wife’s supplementRy card set up in my Google pay and get spend notifications for both if you need an alternative workaround.

Curious as to why notifications are supposedly tied to phone numbers… the app can be installed on devices without a SIM card and the notifications are from the app, not via SMS. I can understand they might be limited to one device per account, but not one phone number.
My wife set up her own profile when she got the supplementary card, with her own details – OTPs and SafeKey 2FA would have come to me, otherwise, such would be pointless.
If I can see all the details for her transactions in app or online, there can’t be security or privacy reasons to not send purchase notifications via my app – plus there would be enhanced security/anti-fraud measures available if this was (re)introduced

Naughty(?) – but nice! I like that as a workaround

Just curious – why not simply ask her about the setting up the alerts?
Why do you need notification for every spend from your supplementary cardholder, you can check your own statement and it will show up there

She has notifications now also turned on

If anything, wouldn’t the question be ‘why bother having Purchase Notifications turned on for yourself?’
The benefits, for me, are
. knowing a transaction has definitely got through when making an online purchase – useful when a site gets ‘stuck’ or SafeKey is messing around
. knowing, instantly, the right amount has been posted
. knowing when automated/recurring transactions have posted
. being alerted purchases that I may not have done (see other thread about Amazon fraud)
These could all be done by regular checking of my statement, online or printed – but the app generated notifications make it easier.
And for the same reasons, it would be good to be notified of purchases made on any card associated with the account I have to settle each month.
