Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Qatar Airways full name on bookings

  • 33 posts

Hi there, I have a ex-UK miles booking with Qatar where the first and last names of the three passengers are correct, but only the first of the middle names has been included. Eg, for pax “John Richard Thomas Doe”, the passenger name on the ticket is “John Richard Doe”.

I called Qatar who said that all that matters is the first and last names, and we “should” be okay, but I recall reading somewhere that Qatar are sometimes funny about this. Does anyone have personal experience? I am not able to change the middle names online, and it was not possible to get the call centre agent to do so.

I don’t think this would be an issue on BA, so hopefully not an issue on QR!

    Many thanks.

I’ve traveled on QR and many other airlines with just first and last name – these are the ones which matter. Some people have so many middle names there wouldn’t be enough fields for them!

My OH spelled my middle name wrong once when I foolishly let him book some flights (he insists it was auto correct on his iPad!) I baulked at paying £65 to change it and in the event nobody seemed to notice.

Thank you – there is some very weird guidance on the QR website which also led me to think that this mattered!

No problem in most of the world except Hong Kong where due to naming practices tens of thousands of people would have the same name if the “middle name” is omitted. If you have an English or European name it won’t be a problem there but your boarding pass may be amended by hand. Someone also posted about this happening in Korea.

Hi @geekay, what ended up happening with this? any issues at check in/boarding?

Due to fly Friday on QR and only just noticed I’ve used my partners shortened first name instead of his full first name. QR said it needs to be changed by BA as it’s a BA reward flight. BA refusing to change and saying I have to cancel and rebook, however no more reward availability.

    Thanks

Alex is considerably different from Alexander, and is not just the omission of a middle name or a spelling mistake of no more than three characters.

If you do nothing I give you a 50:50 chance, which I know is unfortunately not that helpful.

We had no issues and the full name (ie all individual middle names) was not required. As previous poster mentions, this is very different from your situation.
