Hi all,
I am flying KUL-LHR via DOH in May of next year. I checked my booking online and they cancelled my KUL-DOH leg and have put me on Malaysia Airlines. On live chat they’ve told me I have to accept that or pay change fees etc if I want another flight. Is this the case, or any other advice appreciated as would prefer to fly on Qatar metal.
Thanks!
Whilst not answering your question I flew in Business on Malaysian this week (Melbourne to KL) and it was a super service. I would not hesitate to use them again.
I hope others chime in and answer your question. All the best.
You don’t have much in the way of consumer rights here and it’s been reported that Qatar can be very difficult to negotiate with. The Ts and Cs on your original booking would have details of change fees etc in the event of a cancellation if you want to stay on QR.
@danyal
Yep, agree, not much choice here. Wonder why you were changed, might be worth a call. Saying that, we just flew MH J from DPS to KUL. Really excellent service as @Roberto says. Very good seats. We would have been happy to fly home MH to LHR in J, but BA wanted us to go back to HKG, our departure destination, fly back to KUL to depart on the same MH flight. Unreal.
Unless you have a pressing need to fly QR, MH is a perfectly acceptable alternative. You will not be complaining, l promise you. As @BJ says, and loves, a direct flight, and a great sleep!
Do Qatar operate dynamic pricing for Avios flight redemptions? Europe to Australia return anytime between now and March 2023 now appears to be 360,000 Avios (Business), having previously been 180,000??

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies. I am going to stick with it because there aren’t many other flight options for when I am due to be coming back other than MH.
I’ve looked into trip reports etc and seems like a good product so as it’s also an overnight flight I might just keep it as it is.
Smart! FWIW I liked botm my MH flight to KL better than I liked any of my four QR flights to BKK. I found both their food and their service more to my taste. For me it was their a380 too which was IMO better than the mixed bag of metal and hard products you get with QR these days. A pity there’s no more a380 but the a350 is easily the second best aircraft around so should be nice, certainly better than a330ss, 787s or especially 777s you might encounter with QR. Then there’s the other stuff @Polly mentions, I think it’s just so much nicer avoiding transits and getting sleeping most of the journey away overnight. While I like DOH, I was never a fan of the Mourjan lounge, and middle of night transits are detestable IMO. Earlier this year I found the DOH transit very unpleasant, everything much busier than my previous QR flight which was quite a while previously. I hope MH will not disappoint and you enjoy your flight.
