Just wanted to check with the new rules, if someone has no Amex cards currently, can they sign up to the Preferred Rewards Gold card to get the 20k membership rewards bonus and then immediately also sign up for the BAPP and also qualify for the current sign up bonus on that card? If so, does it have to be in that order or can it done the other way around (BAPP, then Gold)?
To piggy back on this question and with the new BAPP bonus in mind, does it matter if I apply for the BAPP card first and then the Platinum card?
In the article re sign up strategy it mentions taking out the Platinum then the BAPP but I need to do it the other way round.
SUB available on Gold provided no amex card held within previous 24 months.
SUB available on Platinum provided no Membership Rewards card held within previous 24 months.
SUB available on BAPP provided no amex BA card held within previous 2r months.
In theory you can apply for and hold both but Amex has been very strict about new applications recently. so don’t assume you would get both.
SUB available on Gold provided no amex card held within previous 24 months.
SUB available on Platinum provided no Membership Rewards card held within previous 24 months.
SUB available on BAPP provided no amex BA card held within previous 2r months.
Excellent summary, thanks
Thanks all. From the above, I take it that if you apply for Gold first, you can still get the bonus on Gold and then BAPP after that. Does anyone know if you need to have achieved the conditions for the bonus on Gold (and bonus landed in the account) before applying for the BAPP? Or could I apply for Gold, and then shortly after also apply for BAPP and still be eligible for both bonuses?

No, there’s no requirements to have hit the target before applying for the BAPP, but as NL said above, there’s no guarantee you will be approved for the BAPP so soon after the Gold.
Also, if applying for both close together, your deadline dates would be close together, so you may have just over 3 months to spend £6k. If you’re a big spender, might not be a problem, but if you wait a few weeks (but obviously in good time before the 21st Feb deadline), should give you a little bit of a buffer to make the spend on the BAPP.
One more thing to bear in mind, the SUB for the BAPP is currently 70k if you go direct from BA. I was about to get my wife to refer me, so she would get 12k, and I would get 36k, but then saw a comment on the article mentioning the 70k, so went directly instead. So you’ll also need to weigh up whether you want to risk missing out on the 70k by going for the Gold first, and then possibly being declined for the BAPP.
Since you have no amex in the last 24 months. I would consider nectar > BAPP work on the 2for1 voucher (whist the 70k bonus is on). And wait till there is a bonus on the plat card. can try to downgrade to the gold card after if that is the end game desired.
A family member tried to get approved for 2 cards in one month and got rejected. So your mileage may vary.
