Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Question about the 2-4-1 voucher

  • 1 post

There’s one aspect of the BA Amex which – despite the excellent articles here at Hfp, is still unclear to me.

    Here’s the scenario.

The avios are in my account, I’d like my wife to get the BA Amex under her name.

We don’t have a household account.

Will we be able to use my avios with her voucher if we travelled together?

Alternatively, would I be able to register her BA Amex under my executive account no.?

    Thank you so much!

    No on question 1.

On question 2, not sure if they check but I wouldn’t risk having both your BA accounts and both your Amex accounts cancelled if you get caught.

Why not just set up a household account?

Your wife will have to have her own BAEC account to get the BA Amex – details have to match exactly. You can then create a HHA with the 2 accounts and use the avios with the voucher. Redeeming the voucher has to be done from the holder’s account.

Firstly get your wife an executive club account. That way she’ll collect avois and tier points on flights. Secondly create a household account with both the accounts and thirdly, rather than a card in her name get her a supplementary card on your account. If you’ve already collected this year’s 2 for 1 voucher then have her excutive club account create the Household account and then she should be able spend the avios when she hits the voucher.

She can’t get a voucher if she’s only a supplementary card holder.

Should of said get her own Amex account too.

Thanks for initiating the discussion, as I had similar doubts on how this works for a family.

As of now I have :

    1. A household account with myself, missus and the kids on it
    2. We both have our own BA executive accounts and its linked to the household.

Am I then right in understanding that if I take an Amex BA card in her name and link it to her executive account number, the avios and eventually the 2-for-1 companion voucher will show up on her account and then we can use it on the household account?

    Thanks a lot.

She will need to fly and it would have to be booked from her account, but you can pay with all the HHA avios.

Thanks – so essentially I can use my voucher and book for myself and a kid, and she does the same, but the actual avios can come form the HHA account?

Yes, though you’ll be on 2 separate bookings.
