Recently been upgraded to VIP looking for accommodation in the UK but don’t want to break the bank and also if you have any recommendations for europe/Asia as will be going abroad in the coming weeks but would like to experience the new VIP status so wondering what hotel you would recommend visiting when booking for this weekend so I can start booking coach travel and see what things to do in the city. Thank you in advance
In the past twelve months we’ve stayed at the Radissons in Bruges, Gothenburg and Glasgow all with VIP status. Bruges was a bargain for a 3 night October weekend trip (406 EUR Friday – Monday) and a 3 minute walk from the station, so ideal for arriving late on a connection from Brussels having caught an after work Eurostar. The hotel itself is fine, typical business hotel lacking personality and the breakfast was take it or leave it but we were booking the trip very late and hotels in the centre of Bruges were astronomical in comparison. We didn’t need to go back to the hotel in the daytimes but it’s a 20 minute walk from centre which might not suit everyone. Gothenburg was the most interesting design wise with the very impressive atrium bar/restaurant area and the breakfast was a bit better than an average hotel buffet. We stayed two nights and I was ill overnight into the morning of our departure and they kindly agreed to a 4pm late checkout so I could recover prior to travelling home which was really helpful. At Glasgow we only stayed one night and were upgraded to a “junior suite” (basically just a much bigger room with big windows), staff very friendly, there was an a la carte breakfast menu for eggs benedict and such, it wasn’t spectacular but better than the buffet also available.

As a new VIP, Better Half and I decided to spend one night at Radisson Blu Birmingham New Street and was given the VIP treatment. Got upgraded to a suite, got the amenity kit, breakfast for two, the welcome snack and the handwritten card. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Well worth for £65. Recommend this hotel. Although its a bit dated, the upgrades are worth it.
Had a slightly amusing experience. Apparently someone with my surname had booked the same type of suite for the following day through booking.com. The staff thought I had extended the stay and had allocated the same room to the person. This meant that I couldn’t really make use of the full late-checkout. I still got a chance to stay in the room till 2PM.
In Asia, I also spent two nights in Radisson Colombo, Sri Lanka. The hotel itself is a mediocre business hotel. Got upgraded to a highest floor sea view non-suite room, amenity kit, breakfast and a fruit platter. I wouldn’t recommend Colombo as the hotel itself isn’t that great. However, Radisson two good properties in Galle.
I have also plans to travel to Milan and Jeddah this year. These two stays will keep me on Premium status for the upcoming year. I doubt whether I can retain VIP status though.
