Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Rainy Day and Blue Rewards saver accounts available to all Premier customers

  • 70 posts

    Hi

Just sharing that Barclays changed the eligibility for their blue rewards and rainy day saver accounts. New wording for eligibility:

To open an account, you’ll need to

    – Be a Blue Rewards member or Premier Banking
    customer
    – Be 18 or over
    – Be a resident in the UK

That’s good as it seems like before it was a bit hit and miss keeping the Rainy Day saver account after switching on Avios Rewards (my account got closed, but I saw people saying theirs was kept opened).

I just tried via the app and managed to open a Rainy Day Saver again, even though I moved away from Blue Rewards 6 months ago! 😀

Their IT can be as ropey as BA.

Also have a Rainy Day Saver, and have never been a Blue Rewards or Premier Banking client. I’m a member of their Barclaycard Visa rebate scheme though.

Thanks for the tip. It was frustrating as a Premier customer to be restricted to the Everyday Saver, especially as interest rates rose!

    Hi,

I have a Barclaycard Avios Plus (BAP) which gives you a BA upgrade voucher (BAUV) every 12 months. I’m thinking of singing up to Barclays Avios Rewards (BAR) as Barclays Premier customer. BAR also gives you a BAUV every 12 months. Now it doesn’t say anywhere on Barclays BAUV or BAR terms that you can’t get two BAUV every 12 months if you have both BAP and BAR. So I contacted Barclays. They said you can in total only earn ONE BAUV per 12 months but the lady I spoke to wasn’t too sure originally and had to ask somebody before getting back to me.

    Does anyone know for sure?

    Thanks

@QNNHFP – yes you can definitely earn both the annual voucher from Premier as well as the Barclaycard one in the same year. You can theoretically only earn one per annum on the BC Avios credit card although some have reported that by moving between the cards it’s possible to earn two in a year.

Can confirm that if you downgrade or upgrade (assuming you have an offer to switch between cards), you are effectively treated as a new customer and can get 2 vouchers in one year.

We’re delighted to tell you Rainy Day Saver and Blue Rewards Saver accounts1 are now included with your Premier benefits – without needing to be a Blue Rewards member.

You’ll still need to be a Blue Rewards member to get other Blue Rewards benefits.

What do I need to do?
As you have a Rainy Day Saver or Blue Rewards Saver account, you may want to check if you still need the other Blue Rewards benefits at barclays‌.‌co.‌uk‌/current-‌accounts/‌blue-‌rewards before deciding whether to keep your membership.

If you do leave Blue Rewards, you’ll keep your current Rainy Day Saver or Blue Rewards Saver account as part of your Premier benefits.

    How to leave Blue Rewards
You can cancel your Blue Rewards membership either through Online Banking or the Barclays app2.

In your Barclays app, go to your Blue Rewards Wallet
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select ‘Leave Barclays Blue Rewards’.

We’ll transfer any money left in your Blue Rewards Wallet to your linked current account.

You’ll need to redeem any Barclays Cashback Rewards you’ve earned within 40 days, from the date you exit Blue Rewards – as you won’t be able to access or redeem your rewards balance after that time.

If you change your mind, you can re-join Blue Rewards at any time, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria.

Thanks everyone for confirming it’s possible to get 2 vouchers. Barclays customer service is truly dreadful – no wonder they are the bank with the most complaints.

    @JDB
    – I finally found this thread where I posted the original question but thought it didn’t go through. Also, assumed if there are any responses to a thread where I posted, I’d get an email notification. But am making too many assumptions…

Thanks everyone for confirming it’s possible to get 2 vouchers. Barclays customer service is truly dreadful – no wonder they are the bank with the most complaints.

Having the most complaints may also relate to the fact they are the UK market leader in current accounts and the largest credit card provider by a huge margin.

And for every complaint there are multiple silent, perfectly satisfied customers.

Over the years I have had Barclays current accounts (student, normal and premier), savings and bond accounts, a mortgage, credit cards, investments, insurance products and never an issue.

Of course as with everything in life, different people have different views and experiences on the same subject or businesses they are dealing with.

Just to fill in my own experience through Barclays chat:

    Me:
“I currently have a Barclaycard Avios plus which has a reward for an Avios upgrade voucher if spending over £10000 per year. I would also like to sign up to the Barclays Avios Rewards which also as an upgrade voucher reward every year. Does this mean I can earn two upgrade vouchers per year with both or is there a limit of earning just one upgrade voucher?”

    Barclays chat agent:
“I will surely help you with information, please allow me a few minutes while I fetch the details. I would like to inform you that if you would sign up for Barclays Avios rewards then you will not be able to keep Barclays ble rewards. Please confirm how you would like to proceed?”

    Me:
“I understand that I cannot keep Barclays blue rewards if I sign up with Barclays Avios rewards. But that was not my question! Please read my question again.”

    Barclays chat agent:
“I’m really sorry I can see you have 2 different questions. I’ll address them one by one. In order to answer your Barclaycard Avios query. I have to connect with Barclaycard experts and it can take 5-10 min to connect with them. I’ll notify you once I’m connected.”

Barclaycard expert then joined the same chat:
“Thank you so much for staying connected all this while. I can’t thank you enough for all the calm and patience you ve displayed so far. I’m connected with the experts now. Firstly may I know if you registered your card on British airways website? Also you can call British Airways Executive Club in regards to cabin voucher query using this number 0344 493 0747 and they will assist further.”

Clearly they didn’t understand my question and probably thought I wanted to know how the voucher works. But whether I can earn 2 vouchers from Barclays Avios Rewards and Barclaycard Avios Plus isn’t a question for BA.

At this point I called Barclays customer service and was told I can only have one, per my original post.

Their IT is shocking, and their frontline CS is ineffective – the only way I can get a sensible response is by snail mail.

I am still a member of Avios Rewards, against my will, having tried to cancel it last May. Currently getting the fee refunded by CS, and keeping the Avios. The app shows that I’m not a member, and invites me to join it!

I am a member of Blue Rewards. I daren’t try to cancel that, in case it throws even more spanners in the works.

…which means Barclays CS gave you the wrong answer.

My understanding is that you can earn two, one via each route. I just got my BarclayCard rewards this month, and it’s very clear in the app that in 6 months I’ll get my Barclays Avios Rewards.

    I have this.

Each generates a voucher per year. I receive 2 vouchers per year.
