Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Real or not? BA SMS

  • 221 posts

I just got an SMS from “BRITISHAIR” saying “Your British Airways verification code is: [XXXXXX]. This code will expire in 10 minutes.”

It looks fake from the sender name and because I have never been asked for 2FA by BA, but there is nothing for me to click on or do with it that could help a fraudster so I don’t really get it. Any ideas?

I think 2FA was introduced with the scheduled update they made a couple of nights ago. I got a code from that sender when logging in yesterday. I’ve just logged in again now (via Face-ID on my laptop), and all my Avios are still intact, so I’m pretty sure it’s genuine.

Are you using Awardwallet or something like that? It may be pinging a request unbeknownst to you?

Sounds exactly like the text I just got when logging into my account online and was the 2FA key

AwardWallet seems to be also causing these to be requests.

Received the same overnight and received one in March as well. I assumed it was Awardwallet.

My partner just this moment received one as well.

Which reminds me, is it just me or is there no biometric login for the BA app?

BA’s IT regularly hallucinates. This week I have received an invitation to check-in to a flight that departed in January and received two credits to my Amex account totalling £232. I would repay these credits as they really don’t belong to me, but I don’t have the time to talk to a confused chatbot or even more confused agent in Bangalore. In the past, BA’s IT has hallucinated two credit card vouchers and hundreds of tier points.

I sometimes wonder if they have put ChatGPT in charge transaction posting.
