We are headed for London for the very first time next May 2023. Would like to stay in a Hilton/Hampton/Doubletree property where we can make good use of our Honors points. Need help deciding which one. Need one in moderately priced but decent area in terms of access to places we’d want to visit. Not top-shelf high priced districts, but not skid row or miles from attractions either. Cost is a factor, would like well under US$300 per night. Breakfast included would be a HUGE plus. Any suggestions as to what sections of city to look in or avoid? Specific hotels? East or west bank? Thanks.
Hilton Bankside is generally regarded as the best option.
Hampton Waterloo is the best central budget option.
If either of those are available at a decent rate, book.
Canopy City could be cheap at weekends due to lack of business visitors and is impressive.
Are you gold or diamond? You still get breakfast included outside the USA!
The new curio hotel in Stratford can be a good option. Excellent transport links and walking distance from mall and restaurants.
Curio St James, Trafalgar Square. Fantasic hotel with rooftop bar and fantastic location. Is expensive but is sometimes a bargain for 70,000 points.
Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury is a decent refurbished hotel, again decent location and can sometimes be had for a bargain on points.
Which places are near the top of your list of places to visit?
Just in case you’re tempted because they are cheap on a search…
Doubletree West End = shithole.
Hilton Euston = shithole. If it’s your first visit I assume you want to visit all the most well known sights. If you can snag the Trafalgar St James for 70k points (may even work buying points n a sale to top up) then I’d do it. Great little hotel and you’re basically in Trafalgar Square sitting just up the road from Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, 10 Downing Street, Horseguards, The National Gallery etc etc etc and with all the theatres and restaurants of the West End and Covent Garden an easy walk away. You simply cannot improve on this location.

I’ve stayed a few times at the Doubletree just off Hyde Park. If the area suits I’d recommend it as an alternative to the City/West End locations. Good property.
Curio St James, Trafalgar Square.
Just stayed here and was impressed, particularly with the size of the room and the large bathroom – tub and shower.
Located 30 seconds from Trafalgar Square, yet very quiet.
Nespresso machine, free tea, coffee, biscuits, water and coke. Molten Brown toiletries and a solid steel kettle.
Stayed at several Hiltons in London. The Canopy city can be good value, and I really like 100 Queens Gate in Kensington. Prices are very high in London at the moment so definitely worth seeing what is available with points
Bankside is good. The Doubletree at Tower Bridge is also often good value. I suspect you may struggle to get well under USD$300 though – London is expensive. Maybe the Hampton at Waterloo?
One tip – Londoners talk about being north or south of the river (north being Westminster/Soho/Chelsea etc and south being Bankside/Waterloo). If you talk about West Bank in London people will think you mean the Middle East…
+1 for Bankside. I don’t like chains and don’t bother with hotel points, but I have paid cash for Hilton Bankside a few times. The bar is very good and breakfast excellent.
Continuing the ‘Sarf of the Rivah’ theme – we’ve had a couple of good stays at Hilton Tower Bridge. Logistics wise, it’s right next to London Bridge Station, in the shadow of the Shard. Close to the Tower and easy walking distance for Borough Market, The Globe etc and with The Queen’s Walk with all its pubs/eateries also on your doorstep. Good executive lounge offering, with a roof terrace with views of the Shard and plentiful food and drink options. While merely Gold status, we have been upgraded from base level to Club rooms both visits. Doesn’t have a pool like Hilton Bankside does though…Finally, can be decent value on points too!
For location, Lost Property, St Pauls (Hilton curio collection) is very good – moments from St Pauls cathedral (100metres/300feet away), and close to the Millenium bridge, Globe theatre and Tate Modern
Hilton Paddington is handy for the Heathrow express and is on several tube lines for easy access and is walking distance to Hyde Park
Not sure on prices though

Trafalgar St James, Trafalgar Square (Hilton Curio Collection) for me. Much better than Lost Property and even more central.
We had a fun time at Hilton Canary Wharf when we visited the 02. Great welcome, glass of Prosecco and a beautiful cupcake as we checked in – what’s not to love!

When someone resurrects a thread instead of starting (another) new one, it’s truly a beautiful thing 😂
I really liked my stay at the Hilton London Tower Bridge—great location, modern rooms, and good breakfast. The lounge there was decent too. I found it easy to compare to places I’ve stayed in elsewhere, like a 4 star hotel Perth had near the CBD—similar comfort level and vibe, but the London spot just has more going on outside the door.
