Hi,
I have a rather impromptu trip to LAX this Thursday, arriving in the early afternoon, and will likely fly out to the East Coast on Saturday night. I have meetings near Culver City on the Friday afternoon but that’s about it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for decent hotels/places to stay which aren’t insanely expensive, well-located enough (given the short stay I’d rather not spend all of in traffic if possible) but safe and with enough to do.
I’m moderately agnostic about hotel chains, though have a proclivity for Marriotts but I know these hotels in the US tend to be awful.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
Personally like the lively (Accor) Mama Shelter but check reviews to see if the nightlife fits your lifestyle.
Very centrally located in Selma, including for the not as bad as you’d expect public transport.
Sadly, lot of homeless encampments – as elsewhere in the city/county/state – but have always felt safe walking in the area.
Otherwise, I’d ignore hotel loyalty schemes and head to booking.com etc and choose an area like Westwood/UCLA then take your pick.
There’s always Santa Monica of course, and if you’re lucky you’ll bump into Rishi Sunak arriving at LAX on Saturday just as you’re leaving. Enjoy!
Santa Monica is a favourite of mine, albeit I’ve stayed mostly using Airbnb previously. I’m visiting again in September on a Hilton redemption at Oceana LXR where, between a double points purchase etc, my rate averages c.£300/nt for the five nights (excl. F&B credit), which I thought was great for that location and quality.
