Hi be grateful for real world opinions on hotels in Bali, those to seek out and as useful sometimes, those to avoid.
We had a lovely stay at the Aloft Bali Seminyak. Amazing breakfast, good (and not excessively priced) meals and drinks in the evenings. Small but nice pool with sea views on the roof. Bunch of good cafes and restaurants nearby, short walk to the beach. Fun but not too much partying, and quite reasonably priced when we stayed
However… it depends what you’re after from a stay in Bali! I wouldn’t recommend it for someone mostly interested in cheap partying (bit far), nor for someone who wants the quiet of somewhere near Ubud. It’s also a solid 4* property, so not as fancy as you can get
Take a look at these recent threads:

Also recent reviews by Rhys (nice bit of alliteration there 😀 ) with comments sections also worth checking out for tips –

I’d agree with all of this after our stay there a year ago. Would happily go back.
Stayed at the Aloft Bali Seminyak a few months back, and it was quite good for the price. I’d say the negatives would be (1) quite poor sound proofing, and (2) food quality, although for the price (free), the breakfast can’t be faulted, just that there are better (free) options elsewhere.
Ubud area, I’d recommend the Elements by Westin I think it’s called, or used to be called, or something. There are just so many names depending on where you look. This one really hit way above what you’d expect for the price point. It was a bit busy, and spots by the pool can get filled up, but it wasn’t too ridiculous. Also perfect for families, as they have spaces for things like ping pong and “archery” while the parents are enjoying a spa session. Rooms were also immaculate.
Beyond the Marriott group, I think the Conrad is an excellent choice for the area. Its age means that sometimes people avoid it, but it has been somewhat refreshed, except for the bathrooms.
Interestingly we really liked the breakfast at the Aloft Bali Seminyak! They had some really refreshing local drink options, and nice stuff off the menu. They even did us a picnic breakfast the morning we were going scuba diving before breakfast started
I have booked the Ritz Carlton for next July – has anyone any experience on that property?
I’ve split booked – 4 nights in a swim up suite then the cliff top villa for 3 nights. Compared to the Langkawi it’s much better priced.

We were in the Bali Conrad in 2018 October, and at least then… we didn’t like it. Some things were good… the breakfast, rooms, pool / lagoon. BUT, there was a lot of development going on, and the corridors were all rather gloomy and grey; depressing is the word. Our “seafront” room had some sort of pump room right in front of it. We complained, and they offered us another at the other end of the hotel… we were in a group, so rejected it. Other than breakfast, the food was mediocre (though dinner time Balinese performances were really good). The beach is *pretty* bad. Not sure if it’s because it was October, but not one I’d return to.
