    @Meta
    Guess we were talking about peak February and November time, trying to find F seats. Was hoping to find an upgrade for next mon to sin.. plenty of F seats available still for sale, tho.

    They were available for beginning of November. Was thinking of going via Singapore to Japan, but changed my mind. It’s not difficult to get F seats, because most people are using 241 vouchers on the route to get extra availability in J and not even looking at F. It’s just there is no pattern when they are released and it doesn’t show on Seatspy.

    @JDB re: “…The reward surcharges for F where RFS doesn’t apply track cash fares…” – interesting, where did you hear that the surcharge is now dynamically linked to cash pricing?

    If you recall prior to the RFS LH introduction, not so long ago, F and CW surcharges were identical on reward bookings. There were a few notable times where BA hiked the YQ element, but in the main the surcharges were constant per destination, other than genuine changes in the disbursements and/or due to currency fluctuations for e.g. foreign airport charges.

    @Scott – I haven’t heard anything; that’s just how the taxes/fees/surcharges have always worked and yes, most recently, prior to RFS the TFCs were the same for J/F but going back a bit further F had higher charges. The surcharges aren’t fixed but are generally at max £300/sector for longer long haul, but lower ex-EU and on A fares and sometimes on F return. It’s usually at £300 on single trips.

    When BA’s move to RFS for club, they added huge carrier-imposed surcharge for some airports which do not charge much tax, but not for first class. I took a frist class from Hong Kong to London in August when cash element was only £34 plus 120k avios, but club was charging about £300 plus 110k avios. I think SIN is another example where first avios tickets might be almost the same, or even cheaper than club.

    I just checked on seat spy, there is a first class ticket on 22 July from SIN to LHR on BA16, 140k avio plus £291. Club price is 120k avios plus £291
