If, hypothetically say, one’s BA Redemption flight were to be rebooked (following a cancellation) with with fare class ‘R’ rather than ‘U’, what are the chances earning tier points and avios from it? Does anyone have experience of this?

Even if you are rebooked into a revenue fare type, there is no certainty or way of knowing in advance that you will get Avios/TP – if you get them, you get them. The fare bucket isn’t the only determinant of whether you get the Avios/TP. In creating the revised/reroute e-ticket, the agent should add endorsements and adjust the fare calculation; if they forget or don’t do it right, you can get lucky. I think that during covid, when BA was overwhelmed with rebookings, more slipped through than today.

Ah, I see – thanks JDB!
Should you receive the Avios and TPs you should, of course, notify BA immediately and ask them to correct this error 🙂

People sometimes inadvertently notify BA by claiming compensation/right to care costs and the erroneous TP/Avios get spotted. Can be an expensive mistake when people are claiming for a KitKat and a cheap train ticket.
