Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Redemption upgrade – should I be worried?

  • 17 posts

My wife and son were originally booked in premium on a BA flight to Barbados in the summer (Virgin on way back). My daughter and I grabbed the two available redemption seats in club so we ended up with two separate but linked bookings (could choose seats under my status which was good). Since making the original booking I’ve been able to move my wife into First as a treat when a seat became available (new booking ref), leaving my son on the original booking still in Premium.

Last week, a space in club opened up so I called the Gold line and all seemed to be fine with a small fee and the difference in miles needed to do the upgrade (still the original booking number). Since then, I’ve had no confirmation by email for the upgrade but the miles have been taken. No payment has been taken from my card and although I can access the booking online, the seat choice is only available at check in. Does this seem right or should I be worried that the booking isn’t fully confirmed? Seatspy still shows the club redemption seat as available which makes me a little more concerned! He’s 15 so I don’t know whether that also makes a difference….

Did you get a booking reference? If not, have you called to ask? You should follow up with BA right away to ensure this has been ticketed properly

It’s on the same booking reference so I can still access it online. Thing is – when I upgraded my wife to First a few weeks ago, she got a new booking ref with an email confirmation.

All people on the same booking must be in the same cabin, so if you upgrade one person only the PNR would get split with a new PNR for the ‘new’ upgraded booking.

I think you are saying you’ve now upgraded your son from Premium to Club, but it isn’t entirely clear.

If they haven’t taken payment (yet) for the second change then you don’t have a new ticket. That may or may not be a problem, but I’d be chasing to find out what is where.

Sounds like your sons change hasn’t been reticketed yet. If it’s been over a week then call in and ask them to check that it’s in the right queue and that there is payment info inc the CVV stored (it drops out after a week)

Called BA and indeed the upgrade is still in a queue waiting to be ticketed nearly a week later. I spoke with a very helpful lady who assured me that the seat is being held but they have quite a backlog with their ticketing department. Might be something for others to bear in mind as although the original 4x club seats are still showing in seatspy for that date, they aren’t actually book able anymore. I assume the other 3x seats are in the same state as my son’s booking and are still waiting to be ticketed.

    Thanks all for your responses!
