I have a FTV with 125,000 and £450 (no 241 voucher). I called today and asked for a refund solely because when flights become available I can’t get through to book them. They insisted on charging £70 fee which, in the circumstances, I think is unreasonable. Is there anyway to get this waived?
Losing battle. Your better bet is to use the FTV to book a cheap single domestic flight (which you then cancel). That way you’ll be left with £70 and a small amount of Avios locked in a FTV for potential future use, with the rest of the cash & avios in your account.
I was under the impression, beyond a certain threshold, that you got another FTV for your ‘change’. If it’s only a few quid / Avios you get it back directly but if not, it’s a new voucher. Unless something has changed?
I’ve just received an email from BA saying they’re refunding my FTV. I see others have received this too so I don’t think it was triggered by my phone call asking them to waive the fee. Very pleased I didn’t pay the £70.

The website suggests that – but it also confuses reward FTVs, cash FTVs and e-vouchers. Seeing as all the FTVs I have seen, are identified by their original booking ref (which becomes the PNR for the eventual trip), I’m not sure what process would let them issue a new voucher with, presumably, a new PNR. The only option I can see is them giving you the fees part back as an e-voucher.
We recently used a LH FTV to re-book a much cheaper SH trip and got the balance of avios and circa £1k in ‘taxes’ refunded.

We moved Brazil flights to Xmas, but in the middle of the one-hour call (incredibly patient and, fortunately, knowledgeable assistant) I did whether, if there were no seats free, I could just use the vouchers for LHR-CDG and have the rest refunded, and she said yes.
Cancelled a cash flight at the weekend and used the voucher to rebook.
The change – around a fiver – came back as an FTV
TBH I’m OK with that. It must cost BA a small fortune in bank and card fees to process tiny amounts (though they did refund me 50p as part of the refund FTVs exercice – still not had the points from that though)

evoucher surely? And that’s how it should be, since evouchers can be used easily online, and you can also easily check the balance by pretending to book something
This thread is about avios FTVs which require calling and have no easy way to check the balance
