Having come here thanks solely to HfP staff and reader articles- Tim’s opening month review and an alert re the 24 hour window to buy points very cheaply- it’s time to pay the favour back
Please read as an update to Tim’s comprehensive survey. It’s as good now as then. Only half full so you actually only see people at meals or the pool and no crowding then. Long empty candlelit corridors are everywhere
Care and maintenance of the grounds is first rate. We just had a big dump of rain and ten mins later the electrical water suction vehicles completely cleared all standing water.
Service is quite immaculate and genuinely friendly. In the suites nothing is left to chance. We couldn’t think of anything they’d missed out, and everything is complimentary.
The beach is pristine and my kayaking found no sign of any floating rubbish/ sewerage. YMMV of course. Roads seemed pretty clear too.
We were at the end of cross Vietnam journey so a few days of sheer luxury and not wanting to dodge scooters meant we only went to the cable car which was a nice ride. Passed on the amusement/water park.
Everyone has different standards of good but this really is up there with the Aman chain , maybe better.
We have loved every moment here and have booked into Regent Portonegro next.
Thanks for the review Eoc. A few qns if you don’t mind
1) are there any other half day or day trips, apart from the cable car?
2) how many days would be ideal?
3) any play areas for young kids?
Thanks for that, we should hopefully be there in Jan for 9 nights provided the land border crossing from Cambodia and the ferry work as planned.
Hi BBB
Yes there are other trips. The cable car is actually the only gateway to a big water /amusement park which I didn’t visit but people have mixed views on. The parents amongst them seemed to like it. See Tripadvisor reviews
If you haven’t travelled round say Hanoi or HCMC then the night market at the main town could be fun. There’s also quite a few local tours offering plenty of the usual snorkelling and kayaking.
We are here for 4 nights and only left the premises once which suited us fine. More than that we probably would want to go out and about. For which we went elsewhere, the big cities, Hoi An etc. This really is a very calm quiet place away from the enjoyable frenzy that is much of modern day Vietnam.
Young kids are looked after as well as adults. There are 2 big family pools. One about 0.5m deep, the other about 1m. Plenty of armbands etc seemed to be available. There’s a kids club but we didn’t go there, looked smart.
There’s even a small kids height table selection of kids breakfast foods in the enormous range available.I saw a number of high chairs in use too.
If you come by air using Vietnam Airlines be sure to build in plenty of time between same day connecting flights. Every one of our 5 flights got either time changed or cancelled and rebooked on one 90 mins + \-. Locals burst out laughing when I suggested switching to another local carrier.
Thanks Eoc. Sounds like a fabulous way to relax after a long holiday.
We stayed 4 nights last week, wish I could have stayed another week. Room upgrade and lounge access provided as Diamond Ambassador. Best lounge I’ve ever been to. Service throughout the hotel was superb, the lounge staff in particular, were excellent. It really made The IC DA NANG which followed seem very ordinary which was a pity as it is a fantastic hotel in its own way, just not a notch above as The Regent is. Currently in Hoi An, wishing I was back in The Regent. The IC Phu Quoc seemed a decent hotel too but I would aim for The Regent every time.
