Forums Payment cards American Express Rereferring for Amex Gold

  • 9 posts

Has anyone had success with points for referring someone for the same card again (having closed it just under 2 years ago)? I referred my partner for the card, no points appeared (we knew she wouldn’t get the welcome bonus, but thought I would still get referral points) the ‘Amex Chat’ person said that you wouldn’t get points for this – ever, that this was a life long rule in line with the terms and conditions. However, I can’t find this in the terms and conditions

I have had the same card many times over the years. All referred. Are you sure:
    – your partner used the right link
    – cookies or whatever was enabled
    – was your partner accepted for the card?

You should get referral points as long as the Ts and Cs still stipulate that the applicant only has to be accepted (not just be eligible for a SUB).

There have been a couple of cases here recently where the applicant hasn’t used the right link. Amex chat staff are quite often wrong these days so it’s worth taking it further.

Thank you both for your replies. Sent the referral via WhatsApp and applied by phone (which we have done before and it hasn’t been a problem) and yes the application was successful. Also the Ts and Cs says applicant needs to be approved (no mentioned of being eligible for the SUB).

Yes I doubted what they were saying in the chat – they have given me false information before (once tried to tell me you couldn’t refer someone for a different card). What is the best way of contact to follow it up further?

Call Brighton, tell them what happened, if they don’t agree ask for it to be escalated as a formal complaint.
