Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Reward flight tax ?

  • 45 posts

Just looking at some reward flights for the first time on BA. WT is showing no tax and WTP is showing approximately £500.
Is this a computer error or is this correct ?
    Thanks

I’ve just booked some and the tax was £650 per head in CW to ANU.

Sounds odd – what’s the route? You might get a range of options but none should be no surcharges at all.

Have you gone through to the final screen before payment to find out what the true fees actually are?

Booked it, Heathrow to Cape Town. £250 each ( we didn’t have the points for a free flight ). Only in WT but not complaining. Think it was classed as a “Reward flight saver”

RFS would explain it. Only available in economy.

Also no such thing as a free flight with BA. They still charge proper government taxes, airport fees and their egregious surcharges just that you can pay more in avios to reduce the cash element.

RFS in long haul should only be £50 in taxes. How many avios did you pay?
As @ChrisC says, there are no flights where there wouldn’t be any cash element at all.

Ok maybe there wasn’t a free flight but I’m sure there was a cheaper one with more points. We paid around 90,000 plus £500 for two of us.

I can’t get into ba.com to check but you should only be paying 16,250 avios each off-peak for an economy redemption to CPT, plus roughly that amount in surcharges. I think you may have picked a bad option there, Rob has done a couple of articles on which options give the best value. You might want to consider cancelling within the 24 hour period when there’s no charge and rebooking after looking more thoroughly at the different prices. 90k avios should have got you 1.5 business class seats!

The second half of this article gives you an idea of what Rob is talking about – though he uses CW as an example. Ignore the references to the companion voucher.
