Hi there,
Avios paid flights from Orlando to Gatwick for tomorrow just got cancelled. I paid for seat reservations on my BA Amex, and the hotel was booked via a Amex gold. We have additional current account travel insurance. BA are booking the next day which impacts parking and pet kennels etc.
From your enlightened brains what are all the options I have? Family of 4 and ideally we want to travel tomorrow but would not like to foot the bill for paying for separate flights i.e. refund of avios not a preferred option.
Thanks!
What other options are there to get you home that have 4 seats on them?
Check google flights and then contact BA with those and see what they say. BA do have an obligation to rebook you and try and get you back home as quickly as possible but if there is no availability (it is peak travel time after all) they can’t magic up any.
But are those options suitable for your family – you may not want an internal domestic flight to connect to a long haul flight back to the UK even if it gets you back home quicker.
BA will reimburse the extra nights US accommodation amd for meals (keep the receipts) and probably the extra parking at LGW (email LGW parking as they have been known to charge a reduced rate) but not the kennels.
Depending on the cause of the cancellation there could very well be £520 each compensation.
BTW when you say tomorrow I assume you mean Saturday as it’s still Friday here in the US! Just want to avoid any confusion as at the time if writing it’s Saturday back home!
I’ve just checked BA flight status and it’s the BA2038 MCO-LGW that’s been cancelled.
yup. that’s the flight. i can see an earlier flight with availability so we will go for that.
Luck would have it there is space on an earlier flight. Finally got through to someone at 7am having spent probably 2.5 hours on hold in various call queues only to be bumped around. Part of my panic was around the clear as mud guidance on what to do.
Either accept or cancel? What about options?
