Røb Burgess 24 Feb (text quoted below) says it would theoretically be possible to keep silver status using only redemptions using vouchers
I am not sure this is right – ?
Using two vouchers per year and redeeming these for upper class upgrades – tier pints would only be earned on the paid-for booking – which at most would be prem economy (H, K, P*) earning 50 points each way = 200 points for 2 round trips
. Vouchers can not be redeemed for flights – just for the value of upgrades , and unless the ticket you are upgrading from was Prem economy (w, s) – then the base fare earning would stick at 100 per round trip . There would be little point in booking a (W, S) prem economy to upgrade to upper class (G*, Z) as the points would be the same – and the base price is generally almost the same – within about £100 of an upper class Z fare anyway
Am I right ? – very intereseted to see the calculations as I myself have both cards and will be looking at the best way to use by vouchers from Feb and June next year
Thanks for all the tips

Earning two vouchers per year would open up an interesting cycle.
You generate two vouchers per year …. you redeem them for two Upper Class redemptions per year …. you earn 400 tier points from these redemption flights to retain Silver …. you use your Silver status to maximise the value of the next set of vouchers you earn …. and so on.
In theory, you could permanently keep your Virgin Atlantic Silver status by doing two Upper Class redemption trips per year. Keeping that status means that your future credit card vouchers are worth 150,000 Virgin Points each which makes it easier to take two more redemptions and continue the cycle.
You are talking about Upper Class upgrades …. I am talking about Upper Class direct redemptions, which earn 100 tier points each year.
Do two of those in a year, as I will do this year, and you earn/retain Silver without any cash flights.

Thanks Rob for the quick reply – sorry I am still not clear what you mean ….
“The new Flying Club reward voucher can be redeemed on either an upgrade or a companion reward, whichever you prefer..”
I can not see where it says that you can buy a flight using the vouchers , just an upgrade or a companion ticket
