Forums Other Flight changes and cancellations help Rights / compensation for cancelled BA Flight

  • 8 posts

    Hi All,

My wife and I recently travelled to Lisbon from London Heathrow, using BA. We used a companion voucher to travel Club Europe. 27k avios points +£100 in taxes.

We had no issues with our outbound flight, everything went swimmingly well. Overnight, our inbound back to LHR was cancelled and we were rebooked via Madrid, first leg with Iberia and second with BA in economy.

Aside from expenses, does anyone know what we are entitled to in terms of compensation? Ie. Refund of avios/taxes/companion voucher etc.

    Thanks in advance

    Jay

Your entitlement to compensation will depend whether the cancellation was as a result of ‘extraordinary circumstances’ or not and how much later you arrived. You, are as you say, entitled to extra accommodation, food or communication expenses incurred as a result of the rerouting and also to reimbursement of 30% (the distance from Madrid to London being under 1500km) or 50% if you were downgraded the whole way. You are entitled to this reimbursement for both passengers even though you used a companion voucher so only paid for one; BA may incorrectly resist! The reimbursement is for all parts of the fare save actual taxes/charges paid away to a third party.
