Hi All
Traveling to Italy in October for a wedding and planning a trip to Rome before for circa 4 nights and looking for some advice. I have never been to the city and know very little (apart from the obvious).
We are traveling with my parents and our 1 year old and are looking for suggestions of where to stay. In my mind I had an idea of staying outside of the centre, somewhere with a bit of room (Gardens, pools etc), giving us the ability to head into the city for sightseeing, but being able to escape it all when needed. This is on the assumption that it’s best not to be city centre with a 1 year old but happy to be told otherwise 🙂
Any hotel/ accomodation / area reccomendations would be great as well as any general Rome advice. AirBnb etc would also be considered!
Thanks in advance
No two babies are the same, but personally I would have taken the opposite approach and sought out a very centrally located property. You’re going to be doing 1-2 naps per day (presumably not out and about at that age) so that minimises the amount of time shuttling back and forth – and you’re also closer to your base if your kid is unexpectedly grumpy/tired/upset.
That said, a property up in the hills with space would work just fine too – just have the mindset that it’s a resort stay with a little bit of sightseeing rather than a more traditional city break.
I concur with what @aseftel has mentioned. If you are with little kids / babies, better to be at a place where you can come back to hotel relatively quickly to have some rest. Having experienced this, suggestion would be stay closer to the main attractions / center.
We are heading to the Villa Agrippina Gran Melia in April for a few days. It is 15/20 min walk to the Vatican, but also has a lovely outdoor pool area. We also wanted to be near the action, but with some space above and beyond a typical city centre rooftop terrace….
Crowne Plaza St Peter’s

A gorgeous but out-of-centre location, the hotel has a shuttle bus direct to Vatican/centre, or you can catch public buses 98/881 which stop outside the hotel, or there’s a 10 minute walk to Metro station Cornelia
It has a decent restaurant and bar, and very good breakfast selection
Pool and garden
They also have a €14 airport shuttle deal (Fiumicino only)

Seconded. We were there last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Close enough to the city for a quick cab ride or even walkable if you’re keen, near the Vatican, but far enough away to be away from the hustle and bustle. Lovely outdoor space too.
