Room deposit charged not refunded Marriott hotel in Edinburgh

Stayed at a Marriott hotel in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago cash booking direct via Marriott

Hotel took a deposit of £100 for the stay (pre auth)

Check out they advised deposit auth would be cancelled (no in room spending / no mini bar)

Anyway they actually charged it and posted last week on my credit card

I’ve not made contact with the hotel as yet

Question I would rather have points , as 20k short for a redemption stay

Could I ask for them instead ? How likely will they honour ?

You won’t know until you call them but I’d expect them to say ‘no’ on the points instead of refund.
