I have out this on Todays Chat but thought this might b more appropriate
I have used my Amex platinum gold status with Hilton to get the Silver Jay status with Royal Jordanian, thus giving me BA bronze status.
I have a lot of economy flights booked this year and the free 7 day seat selection and the quicker check in etc. would be worth the £40.
So i have the membership number, what now. I cannot find anything on my EC page to up my status and reading the email again (from HFP) it says about putting the RJ number on bookings, can this be done retrospectively to all my existing bookings? And does it replace the BA EC number? Any advice will be welcome. Thank you.
It can be done but not on the BA website. You can try doing it on the Finnair website (manage my booking – using your BA PNR) or possibly others like rj.com. Alternatively, call BA and they can do it for you over the phone.
Following up on the opening post, changing the FF number is relatively easy from most oneworld airlines, RJ and RAM are straightforward.
What i am not clear on is, when do you need to change the FF back to BA so that you can earn the avios points.
i’ve heard after check-in, but assuming that’s online check-in and after online boarding pass issued and before boarding the plane?
Can someone please confirm the before and after of when?

Before your BP is scanned at the gate, as that’s what determines which FFP gets credited.
Just to clear some things up above too, the RJ status does not get you BA Bronze/Silver status, you are RJ Silver/Gold Sparrow which are equivalent to oneworld Ruby/Sapphire and recognised by BA as a oneworld airline, so you won’t get a promotion or have your BA status ‘upped’ unfortunately.
For BA to recognise it as others have said above you’ll need to replace the BA frequent flyer number with the RJ frequent flyer number in each booking you wish to avail of the benefits, and then as @Pangolin said change the number BACK to your BA frequent flyer number before scanning at the gate if you wish to be credited Avios/Tier Points in BA, otherwise your flight rewards will accrue to RJ instead.
You can change the frequent flyer number back at any time but as soon as you do, the benefits in theory stop so if you did so before online check in you might lose fast track, lounge etc. You can just show your RJ status card to secure all your benefits as well, but some agents may then insist on updating the frequent flyer number back to RJ.
Once seats are selected they will stick and there is no fuss, unless you want to change your seats again.
And when you change your FFP back to a non-status one just before the gate, you’ll then lose the priority boarding by default.
At least with Star Alliance I can usually get round this by showing the physical Gold card, so maybe with OW showing the digital card in the RJ app might do the trick, but I haven’t yet tried it.
I’m sure this status match will be popular so will be keeping an eye on people’s experience on this thread.

Can you not get around this by having a printed boarding pass with the status related FF programme on it and change it digitally after check-in? Or does that change where the flight would be credited to?
Yes, the printed boarding pass shows the status. You can also show the RJ card from the website showing status.
But reading this, made me realise what might have happened the other day… I’ve changed the FF number at the airport back to BAEC, and when boarding the red light flashed and there was a loud beep. The agent pressed a few buttons and all was good. But maybe it was the system complaining that I was not actually in boarding group 2 (or whatever), since I had moved to my BAEC FF #.
