Hi, hoping the knowledgeable people on here can help!
My partner and I have a Ryanair flight booked from Manchester to Dubrovnik in June 2025, which has now been changed. As the new flight is the next day, would we be entitled to UK261 either article 7 (compensation) or article 8 (re-routing on same day with a different airline).
There are currently no alternative Ryanair flights from Manchester on the day we need to fly, however there is a Jet2 option which would be suitable. We could of course get a refund, however this would not cover the cost of the Jet2 flights.
We also have a non-refundable hotel booking, hence not wanting to fly the next day, although if we were to get compensation under article 7 this would more than cover the cost of the hotel for that night.
Original flight time: departure 17:00 – arrival 20:55
New flight time: departure 07:55 – arrival 11:50 (the day after the original flight).
Many thanks in advance for all your help!
It has not changed within 2 weeks of the flight date so no compensation is due.
You may be able to switch flights with Ryanair to depart from another airport arriving on the same day or you can take a refund in full. I don’t think Ryanair can rebook you onto another carrier, though someone else may have better knowledge than me on that point.
If you take the refund Ryanair do not need to do anything else and you will need to book the new flights yourself.
If you can’t get Ryanair to book you on Jet2 (which, as posted above, they can’t/won’t) or agree a different departure airport, take notes of their refusal(s) and then you will need to buy your own new tickets and claim that cost from Ryanair by way of a complaint. If they refuse to cover that cost, then you will need to go to AviationADR to get reimbursed. If you are concerned about being out of pocket for a relatively extended period you ideally need to make it clear to Ryanair when taking a refund, so then you are only chasing the difference. The test as to whether all this is justifiable on your part is that the costs incurred were “necessary, appropriate and reasonable”. The ‘necessary’ is for Ryanair to comply with Article 8.1(b) and because of your non-refundable pre-booked accommodation, ‘appropriate’ should be covered by choosing a comparable carrier and ‘reasonable’ should be covered by the price differential not being too huge and the new tickets price (with only the same add-ons, if necessary) being the ‘going rate’ (keep screenshots of other options) for being obliged to book these now vs when you booked on Ryanair.
Ryanair are highly unlikely to play ball in rebooking to another carrier. They have also been known to ban passengers who’ve upset them eg won a cash back claim. I generally regard schedule changes with Ryanair as an unwelcome side effect of booking with them
Thanks for the help everyone, really appreciate the advice and input – I’ll have a think about what’s going to be best for us, have a great weekend!
They banned passengers who charged back flights that operated during COVID. Winning a reroute claim won’t cause you any issues

Although your hotel booking is non-refundable, another approach would be to contact the hotel directly, explain the situation and see if they are able to accommodate a date change, moving your arrival there one day later.
Has there been any change from Ryanair to the return flight (if you are indeed returning with them)? If you want to keep your holiday the same length, you could agree to Ryanair moving your outbound by one day and your return by the same.
I appreciate you might not be flying back from DBV or picking up a cruise etc so might not be able to/ want to do the above!
Just saw this,
There is a big difference between a delay & a cancelation. Article 5 is cancelation & covers the 0 – 14 days https://www.legislation.gov.uk/eur/2004/261/article/5
Article 6 is about delays
