Same day changes – reward booking

Hi All,

I’m sure I’ve read on here before that you can make same-day changes to a booking (I believe if its in Europe) to change to a different flight time on the same route. Is this still the case for reward bookings? A group of my friends are booked to travel LHR – VIE on the lunchtime flight, but there’s only reward availability for the morning and evening flights. I’m considering booking the evening one, then trying to change on the day if nothing else comes up (if its possible..).

SDC has never been available for reward flights. An online search will easily find several articles discussing it.

No. It’s only on revenue fares, and not the very cheapest hand baggage only ones.

Reward flights have zero flexibility from 24hrs before the departure of the first leg.

What you would need to do is book the cheapest economy plus fare on the day then look to change in the early hours of the morning.

If you’re booking a reward flight you need to be lucky. They often make club seats available on more flights in the last few days and you would be able to change onto one of those for a £35 pound change fee.

I managed to get a few last July and August on busy weekends back to UK. Sometimes more than one was available, depending on route. Some came up a week before others at any point between 7 and 2 days before flight. On 2 occasions tickets were not buyable the entire week! I just kept checking. On one flight my daughter was in economy on a paid ticket and one unfortunate traveller was complaining to cabin crew that she had booked CE – I had obviously bumped her to the back!
