Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Seat reservation charge for Silver member

  • 323 posts

I just got notification that my seat booking for my flight to JFK had changed – I’m flying in the WTP cabin. When I logged in to check it and change it again, the ‘extra leg-room’ seats at the front of the cabin are being shown as only bookable for an extra £73, whilst the rest are free. Is this new? As a silver member I’ve never had to pay to reserve seats in advance previously?

Is it an emergency exit seat?

If so these aren’t free on long haul for silvers until within 24 hours of departure

Good question. BA often keeps the front row open for Gold members but then it normally appears blocked out.

Thanks for the info Chris – they are exit row seats. This isn’t something I’ve come across before (though I haven’t travelled in WTP since pre-Covid)

I’ve not seen it detailed anywhere on ba.com (or on HfP for that matter), useful to know though.

It’s on the BA seating page in the ‘exec club members’ section

I just experienced the same issue and called BA and advised this is a new policy change as of 10 days ago. Silver card holders can no longer reserve exit row seats without paying the fee (£70 in my case). This strikes me as more penny pinching on the quiet and a further devaluing of BA loyalty benefits.

I thought it was always the case that only gold members could pick the emergency exit seats on long hauls.

Most BA PE configurations I know are far from the emergency exit as they have the separation walls (IB has the first PE row just by the second door of the plane). Which equipment are you flying on?

That was my understanding as well re the emergency exit row – I’ve seen them as chargeable on BA (unlike QR!) However, when I last looked, the bulkhead seats were still free and are just as good.
