Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Seat Reservation Fee on Upgrade

  • 93 posts

I booked WT return from Tampa just on Monday with my companion voucher with solo discount, saw today PE is now available but I booked the exit row if I upgrade to PE can I get a refund or can it be used for a seat selection in PE. Also mulling over a double upgrade to CW as was told when I rang up business was available with a companion voucher. She said 5 seats are left which seems quite good. Just shows the value of the AMEX voucher to open up seats.

Could also upgrade son and hubby but would be an extra £440 for us all in fees/taxes I think plus 65000 extra avios pondering whether is worth it for old style CW/overnight . .still have a good chunk left for other adventures or I’m sure can build some more up. I’ll call up again tomorrow to check.

I’ve got a horrible feeling that BA made it so that there are no refunds on seat selection fees unless it’s them changing or cancelling your booking.

    This would seem to confirm!

It can be dependent on a good agent – I upgraded a 241 from CW to F and the agent very kindly refunded my seat reservation fees, but that’s probably good luck or the benefit of using the YouFirst line.

I’m not cancelling the flight? This is what the BA website says

    Refund for seat fees:
You have paid for a cabin upgrade and do not wish to pay the difference to select your seat in the alternative cabin

I’ll call them again tomorrow just need to decide on PE upgrade of CW one . .

You’re not paying for a cabin upgrade though – you can’t do this on an award booking anyway, except when it’s available for cash at the airport prior to departure. When you change an avios booking, BA cancels the original flight and rebooks you in the desired cabin.

As mentioned, you might get a very accommodating agent but it’s not guaranteed.
