I understand BA can change seats for operatinal reasons. For example I was in row 7 on a flight last night and as the Club cabin was increased I was re-seated further back.

But I have a Club flight early Jan and I had selected row 2. While checking the seats on the many flights I have (yes, I do this regularly!) I noticed that I had been removed from my seat in row 2 and the only available one was in row 11.

What kind of operational reasons may have caused the change? And have I got any right to complain? What’s the point in booking Club and having status so you can choose your seat at the time of booking if you can then be removed for no apparent reason?

    Thank you

Oh no, row 11 will be a nightmare in terms of being served. If you look on earlier threads, there’s been a habit of this happening – even to Golds. I’m not sure we settled on the reason why.

All you can do is keep checking up to the time of departure to see if you can move forward.

There has been previous discussion about the row 2 ejector seat phenomenon (credit to @JDB for that one). You don’t say what status you have, but the suggestion is that in some circumstances row 2 may become an informal Gold only domain.

Whatever the reason I’m afraid there are no grounds for complaint. Your status entities you to choose from the available seats, without guaranteeing what, if indeed anything, will be available.

If a seat is not, or subsequently becomes, unavailable to you then you can’t sit in it

I was in 2F on a short haul from LHR yesterday. I have no status and did not pay for the seat. It was the only available Club seat at check in so I am not sure about any privilege in row 2.

What happens at check in and indeed shortly before is a different ball game, hence the advice above to keep looking.

Row 2 may well have been the only place left precisely because it wasn’t available to most people earlier, so everything else got selected leaving that available at the end.

Bulkhead seats in long haul are often available at check in for the same reason.

    I have silver status.

I had selected seats in row 2, then go ejected. It’s quite annoying but I see there’s no remedy.

    Thank you all

This has happened to me several times this year. It seems as though the only remedy is to check your bookings regularly so you can hopefully put yourself back in a decent seat as soon as you spot the change.

I wasn’t fast enough the first time and lost my row 2 seat which would have been the front row (on the Euro Flyer, possibly?) LGW-OPO. Sad face.

I have blue status and were doing a dummy booking yesterday yet it was offering me free seat selection in club? any idea why that may be?

Either a website bug (surely not!), or more likely it was in the highest fare class in the cabin which does come with free seat selection.
